Unless an artist registers an image with the copyright agency in their country, then they cannot complain if someone elses their artwork. You cannot create something, post it on a web site and just state "this is copyright".

How are you supposed to know if an image is copywritten or not? It's general practice to add © and the year of copyright to the image if it is in fact copywritten. Otherwise, anyone else is free to use that particular work.

Well here is my 2 cents worth on this topic. My girlfriend and I work in the sign industry. we create signs for major companys you see everyday driving down the street. As far as ripping or stealing artwork goes you can take artwork from another person and change it 20% and it is legal! We have other companys artwork in our hands all the time given to us by our clients and if we change that artwork by 20% or more there is nothing that can legally be done about it! I also believe that this applies to any picture that can be downloaded from the internet...................

actually, if you want to be technical, after something is produced it is automatically copyrighted.

if you use something that you didnt create it is breaking copyright laws (unless you have their permission). so dont try and say that its not copyrighted

That is true. But what I am saying is if you want to take legal action against someone for using your artwork, then you need to have the copyright registered. Otherwise, anybody could steal anybody else's work and claim it as their own and know one would know any different.

the things on deviant-art have copyright. i don't know how they do it, but it's just the way like things are.

I read sometime that everything is automaticaly copyrighted if you created it on you own and mail it to your own e-mail adress. This way you'll have a copy wich has the date and time of the day you saved the picture. and it has your name as author. (when you look at the properties). That is enough for saying it's copyright, cuz you have the proof that it is your own product. Everyone who changes the picture without your permission is violating the rules of copyright. If someone "steals" you picture and claim it as his own, he doesn't have enough proof, cuz the date on that file will be of a later date.

yeah. that's true. but the artist on deviantart, make sure that they post up the pictures before you know they have one... So i guess that the chance of someone hacks a computer before the picture is posted on deviant art is allmost zero. So that's not gonna work for us ^_^

if you have permission you may use the images provided by the DA members, but you must request. i think everyone gets the picture, eh? I would nvr render off of DA unless i got permission, anyway. w/e i'm sure many others have said so as well.

    Happy New Year!
