Would using brushes from Deviantart.com be ripping? I want to make an avatar with some brushes I downloaded, but I don't want to rip.

 

My questions are:

1) Is using brushes from DA ripping? Cause if so dling them would be pointless.
2) Are the renders posted on GR (Well at least the ones in the gallery i know some people might have rendered something 'bad' ) usable for 'anything?'

 

I just find it funny because for some reason we're not allowed to use DA because of copyright, but it's okay to use scans, screenshots found on google and stuff because for some reason they're not under the same copyright?! Impaired logic is what I'm thinking. (read this before you reply and make an ass out of yourself, that's if you reply). Or is it because you know that there is a much higher chance of a member of DA finding their work on here than an actual artist who works for a games company or whatever.

I never said I was against it, I just don't get the logic behind it. (because I know one of you will try to be a smart ass and say I used a "render" which is actually a cut out in my sig.)

You're not rendering anything, you're just cutting stuff out of the original image. (Rendering is a completely different thing, damn shame the words is misused so much).

I'm sure you could do it as long as nobody finds out. The people who did all the original artwork and posted it on the internet who aren't members of DeviantArt get ripped all the time, it's just that they're too busy doing something like games design/animation to be bothered with something as trivial as a sig.

Whereas someone on DA may stumble across their work here (as DA is more of a hobbyists website and some members of DA post here) and cause all sorts of crap here since DA is usually done in someones free time.

The site could get sued by a games company for using copyright images, but sigs are too trivial a matter to bother with (because game characters/scans etc. are also under copyright, believe it or not).

 

hmm, i thought this site was called game renders? I see your point but words have dual meanings, like murder.

 

To be honest, I have to admit that people are rendering in a way, but not in the sense that they've made the image as people seem to make things out to be.
All they're doing is hording a website to themselves for stock images and cutting an image out for someone else to save them some trouble (as nice as it is). But then, there are some who act like it's under their own copyright who kinda tick me off,
like those who have do not rip or whatever and pm me to get the full copy for my render. No credit is ever given where it is due (like the original artist).

They are however, rendering in a sense that they upload them for evaluation.

I know a few 3d artists who do true image rendering and they get ticked off with this, it kinds brushes off onto me (as you should have gathered).

This whole don't use DA because it's under copyright and everything else you're using isn't logic doesn't make sense to me though.

 

yeah I too dont enjoy having to pay credits for something like that or whatever when you can just go to the same damn website and cut it out your own.

as for the people who accually render things in 3d programs, i can fully understand why they would get mad. I enjoy being able to come here and open up the render section and download as many as i want. I dont like having to pay for something i can get for free. Its like the people who accually sell linux distro's whereas you can just get the same damn thing for free.

 

i never rip anything from DA. Umm but i dont really get how to make a render. i dont even know what a render is if u can rip it.... lol sry it might sound newby but i got no idea, im just a sig maker lol

 

well now i will change my way and not render ever agagin..

 

i dont know if if it is classed as ripping but i have seen someone from a forum using lines out of the peices of proses i have subscribed to the DA.
though i have noticed it im not going to report is as "theft", im not even going to report it.
if someone has seen my work and has decided to use it for their own personal use then its just the recycling of creative thoughts.

Im assuming that if you get the permission thats its legal but other than that just dont go to that site and take some cool looking stuff.
