kuno00 from NSL here okay, to the question "what is the diffrence between CG Talk/dA renders and game renders?" Its really quite simple, first of all in the copyrights of CG talk aswell as dA it sais that you are NOT ALLOWED to re-use, re-edit and re-publish the work there in any form. now, research found out that that line does NOT exist in the render copy rights of 99% of all gaming companies, eg: EA Games, Eidos, Gravity Corp., Square Soft, you name em... second of all, as you might, just maby have noticed, the wallpapers that gaming companys make/buy are made for so called "advertising" purposes, or as above mentioned, they are "Promotional art" If I make a sig with a gaming render on it, and you have no idea where its fro...you'll ask where its from, right? so, as soon as you ask yourself that question in your head, the render has served its purpose. either your like "OMIGOSH, that game looks cool ima check it out" or "HOLY CR4P That game sux" where I didnt nessessarily promote it positively, but now you know the name, so I still promoted it. Same thing goes with MOST anime/manga renders, not all, but most thank you for listening kuno00 National Sig League
Have you ever even read a copyright statement from any company? What's the last video game you bought after looking at someone's sig? Has ANYONE on this website ever bought a game after looking at someone's sig? Incredibly doubtful. Just because it's labeled as promotional art doesn't mean it's not copyrighted. Promotional art is the stuff you'd find on the advertising pages of a game magazine, for example. It means that it can be used by certain entities to advertise the product...it doesn't mean that it can be stolen and altered by every single internet Joe Schmoe that has photoshop on his computer.
from what I can tell most of the renders you pointed out there were done BEFORE GR stepped in and said stop render DA images as its not allowed.
----ing morons. everysigle peice on DA is copyrighted. using game characters is considered promotional meaning you can take it and use it as long as you dont make profits off of it
This is real stupid now I mean if your not making profits off it then I really don't see the probs but hey their decision
yeah i'v been all over cgTalk and i found about 7 ripped renders from there :/ kinda sucks people cant listen to silly rules hmm good catch
This guy has a bunch of star wars related stuff I've seen used in sigs. Even Big Dave has a sig or two with this guy's stuff. :S May wanna check those out... http://www.deviantart.com/view/19404471/
Wouldn't what people sellingl sigs be engaging in illegal activities? Essentually they are profiting off of the game renders pictures that are put in the sigs. That is directly against copyright laws and imo worse than ripping. So...down with sellin sigs for money unless you created your own render...
Considering i haven't sold any signatures for money, you can remove my name from that post. Much appreciated
