Well as we all know that thanksgiving is coming up right? So I thought that after four years of struggle I have saved up some money so I can upgrade my comptuer ... I am using an old compaq one, don't know the model Not the point there but I was wondering if you guys can help me build a computer? good gaming one? if possible? I have got 900 well around 900 USd bucks So think you guys can give me everything that I need to get ag ood gaming or descent gaming build for that much? Here is what I was wondering that I can get, -Core 2 Duo -A good graphics card that can play current (Call of Duty 4) and future games? -Nice looking case with lighting if possible and a nice cooling system -good hard-drive, a rapter would work if that is possible 160 or 150gb is enough for my work And everything else needed in a nice looking computer since I really want to get rid of this one Oh and also if possible a flat panel screen if you can squeeze it in if not then that is ok I will get it from somewhere else I will be building this around the thanksgiving time so will be buying stuff online and so far as I have bought stuff from online the only place i trust is newegg.com so if you can make sure that the parts are from there (all of them) that way i would only need to do a one big ass transaction hope you guys can get this asap
I suggest you get the Q6600 (or you could wait for penryn) and the 8800GT. I dont think you would be able to fit a raptor into that price.
I think you should go with an AMD... You will get a comparable processor to a good Intel for less money. I personally like ATI cards, and I was just looking at a custom PC site today and they had dual Radeon HD 2600XT's for like $250; singularly they are about $20-$40 cheaper than nVidea 8800GT's (maybe 8600's, I forget). You can find decent RAM for pretty cheap, ESPECIALLY on Black Friday. Go for maybe PC3400? I am not sure how much RAM costs now a days, since I use PC2700 and its about $50 for 512MB. And I am sure you want to go for at least 1GB of RAM... But you should definitely go for 2 (if not more). (Make sure you have a motherboard that supports your desired RAM size and type). If you want a lighted case (setup to have it in it), you most likely will have to go to a place like Micro Center or CompUSA; if not order one online (newegg). Newegg, actually just sent me a flier about a $40 case that has good cooling (as I read). And the lighting can be bought at one of those stores or from newegg. Just don't go overboard with lighting. Also, if all you need is a 160 GB HDD... You might as well pump out a few $15 for like a 200 GB one or something, because they are getting cheaper and cheaper now that 1TB HDD's are rolling out. But if you want a Raptor, then you'll be paying as much as much as a 250 GB HDD for 120 GB, or so... I;m not sure where they are priced at the moment. Target had the same monitor as me (19 in. wide-screen Westinghouse LCD) for about $140... I think it actually might have been a 20 inch. Anyways, you should be able to find a decent LCD monitor for under $250. I personally have had no problem with either my Westinghouse or Samsung monitors, so that feedback may help. Just make sure to look over Black Friday ads, so you can take the discounts to their fullest, and just remember if you wait a few months, everything that is too much for you now, will have come down in price.

Dont waste your money on the 2600 XT's or the 8600 GTS's. Get a 8800 GT, and a intel core 2 duo cpu in the budget range. Also dont get the PSU that was posted above if you want to keep your system long term.
Apparently you REALLY do not understand how to shop. When you are buying a product, you look around for the highest rated product for the best price. Back on topic, Rosewill has always produced very good PSU's as well as PC cases. They are the highest rated non-fortune 500 PC component factory out there as of now.
The last thing you want to "save money on" is the power supply. Instead of getting 2 2600 XT's go get 2 1950xt pros in CF on a p35 motherboard for around the same price.
Clearly you do not understand how to shop for PC parts. You know exactly what you want before you go shopping. ------ other people's ratings. Buy an Enermax or a Silverstone and bypass the whole "nah, i trust this brand of psu I've never heard of" dilemma. One of these would be perfect. Also, go Intel. Their low end chips are as cheap as AMD's low end chips, but overclock much higher without any trouble at all. Also, 8800GT's kick the ---- out of the current GTS', so go for one of those.

[/b][/quote] ratings don't mean ---- if the people rating them aren't knowledgeable. on most lists I'v seen of PSU rankings... from the DFI forums, to the AMD forums, to the Xtremesystems forums, to the hardOCP forums... Rosewill falls under the "not recommended" category. They aren't absolute ----, but they aren't exactly good either. asside from your PSU and your graphics card hwoever, your build is pretty damn solid. swap to an 8800GT(if you can find one) and to an enhance ENP-GH PSU and you're gold. board is debatable however, good solid choices in the price range include the Abit IP35, the gigabyte DS3 and the board you recommended. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=1826 the 8800GT has 112 shader units vs the 96 of the 8800GTS. It's also built on a better 65nm manufacturing process. As suchit overclocks REALLY REALLY WELL. It exceeds the 8800Ultra when you start overclocking. Plus more vRAM.
I'd recomend this PSU over the one you mentioned http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=PS-E5150GH see how they look identical? they are. Enhance makes the PSU and silverstone resells it... http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=24 http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=23 asside from that it's a kickass PSU just overprice(comparatively) after it's been through a few middlemen. Infact the enhance ENP is SOO popular on computing forums newegg started stocking it(but for more $$$)
Id swap out the mobo for DFI BLOOD IRON P35-T2RL LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813136038 and Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme Heatpipe CPU Cooler (Socket 775/AM2) http://www.petrastechshop.com/thulhecpucos.html 120mm Yate Loon D12SM-12 Case Fan - Black (70.5 CFM, 33 dBA) http://www.petrastechshop.com/12yalod1cafa1.html For better OC'ing Also it needs an os.
Again, you are right, xlink. I'm from out of the way, down-under NZ so I've never heard of Enhance, so that Silverstone PSU is pretty much the best value in NZ

Right around $900 after rebate, a bit over after shipping. if you need pruning I could probably try. if the 8800GT ever gets restocked(worldwide shortage) you could probably find them for $250 in a few weeks.
