    Hey Guys
I was wondering that last time I posted and some of you guys gave me some good builds for around $2000 or so and I liked them. I told my friend and he is building that computer for himself. As his old Desktop is a piece of (****).

I want to rebuild or change some parts in my current Dell Desktop so my brother can have it for gaming, working, and just plain surfing the web.

The specs of the computer are posted below.

Here are the things that I want to change and I would love it if you guys could find me parts online (usually New-egg) so I can re-install the parts into this computer.

-PSU Unit. 240 Watts is too little so what ever would be good enough to run a good and descent Graphics Card.
-Graphics card currently installed on this computer / desktop is way to old! and ANCIENT!. I want to change it to either GeForce or ATi Radeon :) something that will play the current and next Gen Games or so. Ooh and can also run Vista!
-Get more Rambus Ram if possible so it can atleast get 1GB of ram or so to run Vista and some other games.
-Get a DVD DL Writer / burner and other things that can write read burn DVD's dual layers and other types R +R -R RW , etc!
-A better 19" Monitor Flat Panel or Screen if possible and bigger than 19" would work as well :)
-A good keyboard and Mice would be nice :) as this one makes too much noise while typing because of old schooliness
-At last a nice HD at either 7200 RPM or 10000RPM would be nice :)
-Ooh and also a nice Cooling System or new fans would be great too!

So I would like if you can help me upgrade those parts for the cheapest prices available on the net or in the shop because I dont want to use too much money on this computer for now as I will throw it out in the future if I get enough money to buy a new one for my brother. Btw this is all for my brother none for me

    So yeah please help?

Here are some of the support sites of Dell to help you get a more better feel of what is inside this computer of mine:

    I love you all :D

As Xelink / Coolguy pointed out I am screwed
so would like to get a custom build then

    around 1000 bucks

    and also for 1500 bucks

ooh and also make sure that it is good for storage, gaming (mostly and extreme), and regular working.!

A good Intel Processor (Quad if possible) would work too
but yeah just tell me what will be the better price for 1k or 1.5k bucks USD

Ok, so what i noticed is that since the dell is very old, the motherboard will not support core 2 duos, and it doesnt have the socket T. It also uses AGP. And from the experiences, ive had with DELL, it wont be easy to switch the motherboard. So your pretty screwed on the upgrade part... So unless your willing to build him a new PC for about 500-700 bucks, you dont have much choice.

AGP cards are getting cheaper and cheaper. You can get a decent one that will fit for under $100 now, since everything's going PCI express.
This is a good sub-$100 card, plus it looks good. I used this particular card in a home-use computer for a customer and so far, no problems.

Also, you don't want to run Vista just yet. I'm sure it can be a working operating system, maybe in a couple service packs or so, but right now, it's barely usable. I work at a Microsoft-partnered computer store and can not tell you how many people we get saying that something's messed up with Vista. Trouble is, we basically have to tell them to go home because as of right now, Microsoft themselves aren't officially supporting Vista.

    ooh ok
I have been using Vista since the day it came out and since then no problems with me but i will take your word for it.

Other than that Is there any agp card out there that can go into the MB without needing to be plugged into the power supply unit?
because I cant seem to get my PSU opened and dont know how to install that type of card in.
I only have 240 or 220Watt power supply so need one that will work with that :)

for the price of 1GB RAMBUS RAM, you can buy a new CPU, a new motherboard, and 1GB DDR2 RAM. 512mb rdRAM costs around $200. 2GB DDR2 RAM costs around $50-70 on sale if you get a good deal and 1GB costs around half that.

also i'm going to be blunt, it doesn't look like a standard ATX sized PSU will fit in the Dell case.

about as much as it does to get the same card for PCI-e plus a new motherboard.

CD drives are entirely reusable though.

so yes, you're basically screwed in terms of doing an upgrade per se. It would cost more to upgrade your system than to start from scratch and basically every new decently priced component is incompatible with the parts in your system. It's a DellTM

give use a budget and you'de basically be best starting from scratch perhaps migrating a few parts here and there.

give a budget and we could probably
put together something better faster cheaper than just staying with what you have.

Hm...Xelink does have a point there
How about if you guys can put up a custom build for me around lets say 1500bucks
    or
    1000bucks if possible?

That way I can see what I can get in the extra 500bucks
ooh and also make sure that it is good for storage, gaming (mostly and extreme), and regular working.!

A good Intel Processor (Quad if possible) would work too
but yeah just tell me what will be the better price for 1k or 1.5k bucks USD

    Thanks Xelink

    For 1500 you should get...

    Intel Core 3 DUO 6700.... $180
    Asus PSN-E SLI Motherboard... $134
    Corsair 2 GB DDR2-800 Memory... $230
    Lite-On LH-2OA1h Optical Drive... $39
WD 250 GB @ 7200 RPM... $50 or the Raptor for 10,000 RPMS, makes a huge differance.
Soundcard... no clue really, never look at that
GeForce 8800 GTX 768 MB vid card... $545
Case... whatever you want really, its a personal decission of what you like.

    Hope that helps.

Alienware is the most over priced piece of ---- on the computer market. They charge you 2000 for a shiny case and parts that you could buy for half the price. You would save so much money just building a computer instead of buying a pre made one.
