I'm planning to upgrade the computer that i'm currently using. I have tons of problems playing games locking up because of my ---- power supply that came with the case. Also I want to upgrade my videocard until I build my new computer in January/Febuary so I can play some of the newer games on this pc at 1280 x 1024. What I'm thinking for the PSU: ZALMAN ZM600-HP ATX12V 600W Power Supply 100 - 240 V - Retail I picked that out because it should be enough power and runs cool to keep the heat down in my case that has virually no airflow. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817379003 What I'm thinking for the Videcard: GECUBE HV195XTG3-E3 Radeon X1950XT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail Seems to be good for the price and better than the X1950 ---, but I hear it runs hot. But I just should add a 120mm fan there to fix that. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814241063 So would I need to change anything for this upgrade and for my budget is $350. Also the videocard that I currently have is an ATI All in Wonder X1800 XL, and would it make a difference in games such as CSS where im getting low fps. Edit: Starting to read some of the reviews of the video card is starting to change my mind to get something different such as the HIS Hightech H195PRQT512DDN-R-V2 Radeon X1950PRO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814161093 So, I'm learning towards the 1950 --- because it runs cooler and other things.
Video looks fine. PSU: I'd go with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817139002 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817139002 if you plan on going 2x 9000 series i'd look at >700W
The 2 9800 GTS's are for a whole another computer build btw, this pc is just an old AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1 GB of RAM, so I think 650 should do just fine.
+1 for the corsair HX. it's a better unit. FYI for an x1950pro + a moderately(as in max OC under water) OCed athlon... http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=PS-E5150GH
it's be nough for an OCed core 2 quad and a olt modded 8800GTX plus 4Gb micron D9 fatbodis(aka the older beter OCing type that usd mroe power) and 1 or 2 hardrives and a bunch of fans. Admtedly with such a setup there isn't a TON of headroom, but the PSU should b running within or blow spec the whole time. Just add up th TDPs pf each pert, 200W id card 200W on the CPU, 50W on RAM 50W on the dries and 30W on th board, then realize it's impossible for all parts to be drawing their theoretical max at any given moment.
Just with the video card, make sure you have a PCI-E slot, and NOT a AGP slot. Most common mistake I see when people buy video cards. EDIT: Also, I doubt that upgrading the video card will do all that much for CS:S. It's more CPU dependent than GPU. Probably the only difference it'll make is what is the highest graphic setting you can use.
yes source is very GPU dependant. I get 200-400FPS on max in hl2 dm on both max @1680-1050 and low 600*400. That said a CPU half as powerful will typically get between 100-200FPS. and in CSS, well let's just say that CPUs from 3 years ago are usually more than sufficient.. doesn't matter if it's min frame rate is CPU dependant if you want to play at high resolutions at high settings, because if you're an antialiasing freak like me you'll typically be more GPU limited. the diference ebtween 9x AA and 18xQ AA is a min of 150FPS vs. a min of 70FPS. That's video limitation.
lol im pretty sure that my card im currently using is PCI E =p and also I just leave the AA at 2x and the AF at Bilinear, also with everything else maxed on a res of 1280 x 1024.
