Ok I got a crossfire ready graphics card...Do I need a mobo that is CF ready also? Is it like, I need two of the same cards for it, or can I use any cards... Can I use a PCI-E with a PCI?.. How does it compare to SLI?
Crossfire vs SLI Charts Crossfire vs No CF From http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Sp...=14474&PageId=6 So, CF = Godly basically ^_^ To take advantage of it, i'd imagine yes. It has the same concept of SLI Nien. Nyet. Nope.
Ahh damn..well I would only be able to get two PCI's or one PCI-E, which I already got an x800GTO... Oh well that'll be for the future maybe...Although my x800 already is awesome..Fear on max settings looks amazing..of course framerates suck sometimes..
All the comparisons I've seen, the performance difference was very small... definently not that big... but w/e. The only real advantage I'm sure of with Crossfire vs. SLi is that in Crossfire the cards do not have to be Identical. One has to be CF compatible, the other just has to be from that generation, ie, an X700XT would work in CF with your X800GTO.
you cant crossfire with a pci card lol, only pci-e. Yes you would need a new mobo. Really only choices are the DFI one, has killed cpus in the past, I would personally not touch it. Then there is also a budget ASUS crossfire board which is cheap and suprisingly performs really well. Got released a month ago I do believe. As for your gto, I have not noticed any gto crossfire cards. an x800gto will not go with a x700 it has to go with an x8xx series card. Also crossfire sees performance benifits over sli because it was developed well over a year after, you see about a 10-15% more power in crossfire over sli.
Hmm..ok..I'll hold off on it anyway cuz I still need a monitor, soundcard, and new speakers... p.s. whats GTO mean?
dunno what the O actually means. But it is a special edition of the x800gt, it was released because at the time nvidia was crushing atis current generation and the gto was released to counter the 6800 series as it was better than the 6800 and in some cases suprising better than the 6800gt however it is generally only a smiggen behind the 6800gt. gtos advantage over the gt is it has 12 pipelines instead of 8, and I think the core is clocked a but higher aswell as the fact you generally get the newer and better R480 cores in them. yum overclocking. BTW have you unlocked your extra pipes yet?
Nah. I dont think I need to much really..not for now..I heard it doesnt always work, like 170:90 or something like that on some website or visitors who's it worked and didnt work for, so I stayed away from it. Also, it can cause artifacts I believe.. Once you do it, if you mess up, what happens then? can you undo or is it broken or just..what?
Tell you right now I am a DIE HARD ati fan But nVida is just right now doing better ive benched my self and nVida is killing them in my benches ive done them overclocked and stock and it isn't looking so pretty right now /crys soon they will catch up i hope ive got both the x1800 xL and the 7800 gtx and i like the ati better But the 7800 is doing better (hotter tho)
you can always reverse the unlocking of the extra 4 pipelines. There is an easy way to tell if it can be unlocked search for unlock x800gto rivatuner in google. As there is a way to tell if it will work before hand, however it wont tell you if you will get artifacts.
How much do artifacts affect it? I dont think its really worth it to unlock them, these default settings are good enough for me..
unless i havent been up to date in technology, doesnt SLI have fewer problems than Crossfire, because there were numorous reports of ATI recieving complaints and defectives of the use of Crossfire. and id like to see a chart on x850 crossfire against 7800 series SLI
just unlock it, if it works congrats you now have an extra 20% added to your card, if not ohh well you lost nothing and can undo it.
