    delete the game content

redownload, but don't go by the progress bar, instead open the steam monitor and go by that, when that is done it should work

I think you need a new video card or something... Try reinstalling the drivers for your video card.

ok my problem exactly is this.

I was playing cs untill i realised i couldnt change my gun point by help or console or advanced options, so i asked for help and this person said go into options and change theise settings, it was something like opensoftware or something, then when i tryed to get onto the game, my moniter says
cannot display this video mode. But when i try and play the game for a split second i can see the top left of what would normally be the main menu, but its huge and i cant see it properly then it goes to that "cannot display video mode. So i cant see anything to change the game options

i have tried reinstalling, changing my moniters colour options, and size like
1024-something but it doesnt work,I dont know what to do know,

the reason you are having this problem is as follows..listen carefully because i shall only say this only once..

if you play in SOFTWARE mode you get ----ty grasphics and you play left handed..so the trick is not to play in software mode. So u switch to OPEN GL. Problem solved.. however when you start your game it says not supporting this format this is a pretty f**ked up problem, but it is not unfixable.

you are having problems with your OPEN GL settings..that is a graphics card problem..

what you need to do is as follows. you need to completely re-install your graphics card with the latest drivers. do you know anthing about device manager ?

Before you do any of this i recommend you have the drivers ready to install ie. your installation disk.

    I have simplified for you

    START> RUN > DEVMGMT.MSC

Find your graphics card in display adapters

    right click and select uninstall.

    Reboot your p.c..

When it comes back on it will either recognise that you have a new device. ie. your graphics card and install automatically.

Or will recognise a new device and prompt you for the installation disk..

When you have done this you should open up your graphics card settings and make sure Open GL is enabled..along with Direct X 9.0 or higher.

    Hope this helps. :D

Well update your driver, make sure in Properties>setting>advanced options is all correct, re-install cs go through steam set up your configurations for cs without starting it up yet, start cs up. HL does some ----ed up things sometimes just start from scratch
