Once every hour or so my grandmas computer will shut off. The processor is pretty hot so I moved the exceeding temperature up a little but its still doing it. Its mainly games when it shuts down, but still not sure of the problem. At first I thought it was the temperature so I fixed that then I thought it was because the video card wasn't installed so I fixed that and now im not sure what it is.

    Can anyone help me out?

    My moms does this alot:

Put a fan on the computer, like a window fan thing, and set it near your computer so it cools off. Also make sure your computer is up to date with the latest in graphics and sound cards, as the game may be doing a force shut down, like my did.

I finally got mad and went out and bought a new video card, and then it stopped.

Try and see if your getting a blue screen of death or not,

Right click on My Computer and click Properties
    Click on Advanced
Under "Startup and Recovery" Choose settings
And make sure that "Automatically Restart" is unchecked.

If you get the blue screen post the error code

If its automatically shutting off and no sign or anything comes up, then its most likely because of overheating issues. Check if the CPU fan is installed properly, along with GPU fan. Make sure all power cables are properly secured and there this nothing prevent a fan from spinning. I had a tough time when I built my mom's rig because I broke a leg of the CPU fan and the CPU shut off after booting. You can change the temp as high as you want, it will shut off w.o a fan on it. <_<

    It says:

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: nv4_disp.dll

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

running too from intense gameplay has a tendency to cause some computers to shutdown completely because its too hot and none of the air that its blowing out is getting anywhere so it builds up causeing the computer to overheat. If the computer is in a spot like it a cabinet or up against a wall then you might want to dust inside the computer because the dust also causes the computer to overheat. Trust me this happens to my homecomputer all the time during year

Also if your back of your computer is close and very close to the wall. It might block the air to come out.

This happens when your system get too hot and it restart to prevent serious damages for your computer...

Clean the dust in the fan. Or try to leave a side of the computer case open or half open. I leave it open most of the time so i doesn't get overheated...But leaving it open is not good because dust can go in too :D

The case is definitely far away from the wall. The side is also closed. The only thing open is the panel where a cd drive goes.

This could also be a Power Supply issue also. If your PSU is going bad or is overheating that can also cause your desktop to shutdown.

First of all, your card is NVidia, right? If yes,

    Go to

    http://www.support.dell.com/

and search for NV4_disp.dll and update your video driver.

If that doesn't fix it, go to

    http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?nv4_disp

    and extract to

    C:\WINNT\System32 (win2000)
    C:\Windows\System32 (winXP)

But this should only be a problem for Win2000.

If this STILL doesn't fix it,

go to Start>Run and type CMD

    Then, in the CMD, type

    regsvr32 NV4_disp.dll and press enter

    Hope this helps~
