Ok so here is the situation. I am remaking an old computer and eveything has gone fine up until now. I went to install windows a 80 gig HD I had laying around, but for some reason it wouldn't let me install. So I ripped out a 10gig HD from a really old computer hooked it up and installed and booted windows fine. So I then hooked up the 80 gig and booted again, I went into my computer and formatted the drive using NTFS. After that I took out the 10 gig drive and tried to install windows on the 80 gig, but here is the problem it keeps giving me some kind of NTFS error. Error is " NTLDR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+del to restart " someone please help me.
I suggest to set the jumper settings to cable select or master.. also the NTLDR is needed for booting the windows. So if that is missing you will need to reinstall the windows OR repair it. question: when you install the disk into the PC and bootin from windows cdrom.. does it re----nize the harddisk?
Yes when I boot from the smaller hard drive and the connect the 80 it sees it. And I can even add remove files from the 80. The 80 is completely erased. So when I unplug the small drive, and then try to install windows on the big drive I get a ntldr error message. Merged Post: Here's a little more info. The bios detects the hard drive, and I have all everything to boot from cd, it says it's booting from cd, but goes blank, then by default it must try to boot from the hard drive, but ofcouse there is nothing on the hard drive to boot from.
no, when text comes up after you see the table after post, it says "Press any key to boot from the CD..." at that, you must press a key or it will look on your hard drive for boot sectors, which in this case doesnt have anything on it, so it shows you the error. but why not just use the 10gb as the system hdd, and hook your 80gb as a secondary, so you can save all your files on there..
that should not matter ash... it just means that the hdd can process data faster... does nothing for the XP setup..
hmm looks like the BIOS recoqnizes the HD ... thats IDE detection.. when bootin from cdrom is it showing you the blue screen where you can push F6 to install extra drivers??
I set all three boot deviced to cdrom. Yes the bios detects both hard drives, and the cdrom. So I turn it on, it goes to biod, then I click f1. Then it says. Booting from cd: And then I get the error below it. NTLDR not found blah blah blah
It's windows xp pro stripped. A buddy gave it to me But I have the problem resolved, I switched the cdrom for a different one, and it worked. Oh well, so much for logic. Thanks for the help guys
