I just dont have the money to throw around on a new socket all the time, even tho newer stuff comes out the amd x2 6000+ will still be able to handed games etc for the next year and ahalf just great, just cuz somthing new comes out does not mean i have to buy it . im wanting this cuz i need to upgrade, and i want, and i want somthing that will be upgradeable for awhile to come
which is why sticking with what is tried and true usually works... again your money. I DO have the money to do so(assuming I sell off my old stuff) so i always go with the latest and greatest, but to be hoenst I really do see a P35board as lasting longer than an Am2 board. P35 has already been confirmed to support penryn and has the potential for PCI-e 2.0 support. Then there is the matter of overclocking. here and today you can make your CPu run over 50% faster than an x2 6000+ heck mine is right now as of this moment. you might not want to do it now, but if you're starting to be CPU limited it's always nice to have the option. (FYI you won't be getting much more out of an x2 6000+ maybe 10% tops) again your cash. I'm not trying to be an ass it's just that I came off of basically your build a year and a half ago(opteron 165 OCed @ a conservative 2.6Ghz probably could have pushed for 3.0GHz, 2GB UCCT RAM, 7800GT, raptor harddrive) I'm estimating a 50% increase in performance from that.
alright, but yes i sell some of my stuff too but then again i have to pay 35 bucks a week for gas, then i have pay insurance. and my part time job sucks, ill look more into bout the intel vs amd again tommow.
world record data base http://www.hwbot.org/results.hall.of.fame.do only thing that the athlons are able to compete in are wprime(8 dual core opteron[16 cores] vs. 2 dual core Xeons[8cores]... humm) sisoftsandra(well duh integrated memory controller on the athlons, this is their strong point) so in every single CPU benchmark, core to core the c2ds win grossly. It's been like this for 1.5 years. Hordes of people sold off their athlons around a year ago. I was one of them. that's why you could find [relatively] cheap athlon systems like crazy on ebay.
