The computer I use the most, one I repaired basically from scraps, is basically dead. At least, I don't want to replace the motherboard, CPU, and RAM in it, after everything else I've done to it. I know how to build a computer, and I have a 300GB hard drive that's still works great. My question to all of you is: what parts should I buy? I've been out of the PC building loop for a couple of years, so I couldn't tell you which graphics cards are the best...etc. I need a computer that is at the very least adequate for heavy PC gaming, video editing, and general recreation. I plan to install Vista Ultimate on it. Excluding the price of the OS and the hard drive (already have), which parts should I purchase to fulfill my PC requirements and remain under (or close to) $1000? Thanks...I greatly appreciate it.
Well first of all, why install Vista if you're going to do heavy gaming. Most games I play are either incompatible or don't work well with Vista. Second, with DX10 being finalized, I recommend you wait a few months for either Nvidia or ATI to come up with their second line of DX10 cards. The ones they have now are good, but they're still need to the DX10 era and I would wait for some better ones.
trying plugging the computer into another room or replace the Power source. If you planning to get vista get 2gb of ram and since you want to play games I would get the 8600 geforce. Your gonna have to wait for someone else that knows more about the other parts.
I would wait until the kinks are worked out in vista, and most of the games are compatible. I would suggest an 8600 or an 8800, graphics card, and 1 or 2 gigs of ram. the hard drive should be fine, unless you want more space.
Yeah, I'm not absolutely sure on the OS, but that's what I'm looking at right now. I just want to know what parts you recommend. I'm trying to stay below $1000, so I was wondering what parts I should use. I.E.: Case, PSU, Graphics Card, Sound Card, RAM, DVD+-RW, CPU, and Motherboard. Every time I try to do it, I usually come up at around $1500 or more.
for a higher end gaming console its harder to get all that in for ~1000, most good video cards are anywehre from $245-700, but try getting an E6600 Core2 duo. they are fairly cheap and perform better then most AMD dual cores.300gb hard drives. for a mobo Foxconn makes a great 680i thats ~$100 cheaper for similar performance and expandablity... look at newegg for prices(or if im unlazified shortly i will go and find it myself) EDIT Also creative labs have a great sound card out (X-fi) you might want to check out
