If you are going super cheap, an AMD S939 would be ideal. Spend about 300 dollars on it and then wait for K8L to decide what to get.

What are you taling about? Get a Socket 939 for K8L?

K8L is going to AM-2, not 939. Either way, the 939 processors and AM2 processors are like the same price.

    Bolding it for comfort.

Btw, if you looked at that link, after rebate it comes out 50 bucks or so cheaper than the cheapest AM2 and processor you can get at Newegg.

Im talking about just spending the least amount you can for a decent computer, if you have the money still conroe is gonna be better until K8L.

I dont see why I should be shot for having a computer for half the price, being able to do most of the stuff, and play all of the games your computer can.

Because it wont be upgradable? In time you're going to want a new processor and chances are they are going to be on the am2 platform.

how will it last longer, they OC to the same limit more or less. I could understand recomending the 6600(which is almost half the cost of the 6700) or the 6400, but seriously... CPU power doubles every 1.5 years or so
people were saying that a Pentium Pro would last much longer than a PI, well... it didnt'. the diference between the PI and the P pro is a lot mroe siginificant than a higher multiplier and some more l2 cache(which doesn't help THAT much)

also I suggest one fo seagates PRM harddrives, they are copareable to raptors in terms fo performance and cost rmeo ro less the same as non-prm drives

cheaper than the cavier... same capacity, better performance

Johndapunk, you are a star. I've just been having a look at some Core Duo Vs AMD X2/FX benchmarks and the Core Duo seems to perform much better. Taking a look at the relative clock speeds of the Intel chips with regards to price, it also looks to be much better value to buy the E6300 and overclock.

Closer to the release of the Core Duo, we should start a thread with a list of good compatible motherboards - I'm sure others would also like the information.

Thanks also to xFearx and xelink for your feedback.

Um, yes they do? The preformance will be neck and neck. Next it will be who has the better quad-core.

Like i said, they are neck and neck. But one reason to stick with AMD is that upgrading from one processor to the next is much easier.
