I like the idea. It would be a nice way to gain recognition for your skills. Also, let me clarify this, Signature making is about skill. We are not putting brushes to canvas, or pencils to paper, we are using digitalized methods to create aesthetically pleasing banners. No matter how artistic you may be, no newb at photoshop can make a tag that looks better than a highly skilled and experienced member. It takes time and effort to master photoshop, illustrator and whatever other programs you may wish to use. Classing is representative of that, NOT of the creativity of the piece. In that respect it is flawless. We make it so ANY p.rofessional level artist can vote for classing, but no one else. They ARE the people best to tell who's skills are most proficient, and their opinions are most significant. The initial classers can be decided by both the community and the admins. We should make it so that a significant amount of votes are required to be classed (say, 7-15). I'm all for classing, but we shouldn't do anything that puts lower classed members at a disadvantage, and we should still hold plenty of open class tournaments.
^ Very well explained. I like the --- idea of voting but what if they get stingy and just vote you low because they can.
why the hell are you even here than? i guess your only active in the signature section, as i've never seen you before in sp, your showing off your work, why, why the hell would you want to know what other think off your work, as you dont care at all? why do you comment others work aswell? huh explain please
I hate when people say things like classing is stupid becuase you can't judge other people's art, blah blah blah. CLassing is meerly to judge a designer's understanding and execution of basic artistic principles and aesthetic values; by your logic, there should be no art classes in schools either huh? Since everyone already knows exactly what to do increase the aesthetic value of thier work ineptly, and have nothing to gain from learning from more experienced artits. Classing is by no means based on judging someone's creativity or conceptualism, but by thier ability to execute their concepts properly and convey the information and emotion they want to get accross. While it's true having creativity and inovation in your work does increase your chances in getting higher classes, that doesn't mean the actual concepts and ideas are being classede on if thier good or not.
It gives people ways of geniunely feeling that they are improving. The whole point of art is to create something for others to look at. Therefore, other people's opinions of art should be important for all artists. Giving tangible results for their work and practice is a great way to entice members to get active and stay active.
The people who don't want to get classed simply shouldn't put their signatures in the signature section, since getting c&c is essentially the same as getting classed, but without the labels.
Those who say that they dont care for ratings on their art are bieng clearly hypocrites.. If they didnt care, they wouldnt be members of a (now) mainly art forum, and post their art up for people to comment and critique.
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. signed wholeheartedly. yes it happens. a bit too much. just because its happening already is no justificaton for doing it already. even GR, which does not have a classing system, is affected by it. go to any thread in the market place and look at people advertise their wares 'omg by this ---shizzle who is really well known from NSL' or some such. we show are art here for other people to appreciate it, not judge. its upto them to like or not, and its upto us to agree with them. if you choose to hate my work. your decision. if i choose to ignore you for that, my decision. but to put a formal system in place where suddenly all that matters is the opinion of half a dozen opinionated twats (no offense to opinionated twats, im one myself) instead of whether you really believe in your work, is wrong. yup. classing does exactly what it says, creates a caste system and kills creativity. it says 'make work look like this, or its not ---. if its not ---, its not worth it.' i know i come off like a raving right wing lunatic but i truly believe that removing classing across the internet would see a hella a lot more originality, and a hella lot less trends.
