This is for you Andrew. ;)

Anyways, okay. The MAIN purpose for the war WAS NOT slavery. The MAIN point of the Civil War was State's rights. The Southern states didn't like how the Federal government was trying to deplete the state's rights. We wanted the right to buy slaves if we chose. Slavery was the last straw, not the main straw. Anyways, Andrew get your arse in here and talk. Tell me more info, I want to know more about it...lol...

How am I pwnt? I did say how it was, and how it wasn't. The federalist government taking away the right to chose slavery, was the last straw. The south needed slaves, alot more then the north, so they felt the north had no right at all to tell them no slaves. I do not agree with slavery. However, that is how it was involved. The federlist government took alot of things away from the state's government. Slaves, just happened to be the straw that broke the camel's back.

The Civil War was about slavery and states rights, but the reason it was about slavery wasn't so much a moral problem but an economic problem.

Some insight on Abe: Worked on a farm up north with his dad, the southern plantations made it hard on them because they could produce more goods faster.

So Lincoln purely felt that these slaves were hurting the economy of the north and felt everyone should be on a level playing ground. Lincoln himself was slightly and used the term "******" as frequently as any southerner did, he even had a speech in which he said some very unkind things towards black people which I'll have to find some other time.

The south didn't like the idea of the government deciding that slavery should be abolished and said the states should. PLUS according to Thomas Jefferson, the writer of the constitution, all states had the right to succeed. The only reason they attacked first was because they knew Lincoln was planning a strike on the south the second he could.

If you don't believe that states should be allowed to succeed then there was an American Civil War, if you do believe that states should be allowed to succeed and believe in the constitution then there was no American Civil War. If that makes sense to you.

Allright slavery did play a big role in the civil war. But the Union still had slavery for a lot of it until Lincoln passed the Emancipation Proclamation. But this didnt even free all of the slaves. The other issues were how the Federal government was running the Confederacy got pissed because the union not only told them that they couldnt keep their slaves but they heavily taxed a lot of the products coming out of the south such as cotton tobacco and alcohol. This pissed the Confederacy off and they decided to recede from the Union. They did not want a war but the Yanks pushed in through the souths newly established lines pissin off the Confederacy more they finally had enough and decided to fire the shots on Ft. Sumter begining the Civil War after that the South whippped the piss out of the yanks until one of the best generals of all time General Stonewall Jackson had the misfortune of accidently getting shot by his on troops. Things went downhill and then after not getting better ground at Gettysburg, Pa They lost the battle of Little Big Top and Devils Canyon then the big one they got ----ed up during Picketts charge because Longstreet ----ed up and okayed it without proper artillery support or adequate scouting reports they went on a big losing streak before General Lee another great general surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia to Ulysses S. Grant a gay general and the second worst president in United States history.

The slaves weren't "freed" until 1863 (?). And that was in areas under Confederate control, meaning that they weren't free at all. This was to keep slave-holding states (Maryland and someone else, I think) in the Union.

As for the start of the war: South wants to do whatever the hell it wants. One succeeded from the Union, the rest grew some balls and followed. Confederate troops decided to kick Union garrisons out of their territory, leading up to Fort Sumter. Cannon fire. Holes. Swiss cheese. Surrender. Allowed to return to the North. Oh ----, you've got a war on your hands.

Slavery was quite a minor issue in the war, actually. Of course, freeing the slaves gets Lincoln brownie points when said freed slaves are allowed to vote. Too bad a certain guy named Booth decided to put a bullet in his brain.
