Ok i have an Nvidia A8N SLI standard edition and the chipset fan has gone in it.
The fan measured 40mm so i went and bought a Akasa 40mm chipset fan. First of all the holes dont line up as the standard one went diagonally. Thats one issue so i need another way of fixing it on.
Secondly do i need any paste applying or something to it? I would think so but ive got no where to apply it. The old one had a fan with holes on one side and a solid back so paste could be applied. This one is like a normal fan with holes in both sides so theres no where to apply paste.

Will it be ok if i manage to stick down the fan to the chipset?

If so what can i attach the fan to the chipset with?
In dead centre no holes line up, can it be glued?

Need help quickly, im on an old laptop and have no PC :S

    use zip ties.

you don't need to apply thermal past to a fan, just to a heatsink where it makes contact with a die.
