I'm sorry but, sigs are a degree of art, you may not think so metaphorically speaking but just like avatars, banners or anything small they are all a form of digital art.
You can be called a pro Pro doesnt just mean doin for a living. pro·fes·sion·al (prə-fĕsh'ə-nəl) pronunciation adj. 1. 1. Of, relating to, engaged in, or suitable for a profession: lawyers, doctors, and other professional people. 2. Conforming to the standards of a profession: professional behavior. 2. Engaging in a given activity as a source of livelihood or as a career: a professional writer. 3. Performed by persons receiving pay: professional football. 4. Having or showing great skill; expert: a professional repair job. n. 1. A person following a profession, especially a learned profession. 2. One who earns a living in a given or implied occupation: hired a professional to decorate the house. 3. A skilled practitioner; an expert. But for the people that use others C4D they should try and learn to cause it really fun...I make my own that I use.
The problem is, you can never tell if the c4d in a sig is homemade or made by someone else unless the person says 'I made all the c4d in this tag'. Bleh. <_<
C4D's are aviable free, Until i learn c4d myself (soon) i have always used others. They provide and you do postwork which is where your gfx gets judged and the fact of how u usedd it, makes it unqiue, no u cant slap a c4d on and call it pro cos it will look crap and too contrasting without own effects added. If its on a LP were only the LP on a black bg is the focus then, there u cant use it Pros are opinions as said
I am not trying to preach that a tag cannot be classed as Pro unless you make every single thing in it, the stock, cut it, your own brushes, own C4Ds, heck even your own programme! (last one was a joke) I just disagree as using several C4D to make a tag up, that can't be classed as anything other than a collection of other people's work. IMHO, it really doesn't matter how much you manipulate the C4D, it's all to make the tag look good, if it's the primary focus, eg and abstract tag, then fair be it. And, I make all my sigs with default brushes, filters, patterns and only one thing isn't my work, the stock, because generally that is the main object. So, basically most things in my tags are actually my own work.
Maybe, but if you were a proffesional Artmaker, lets say for Disney or Pixar, you would laugh if someone even showed you a tag and call it "art". See my point?
Here is something for some which i consider klutzy: C4Ds are there, use them The sun is there, use its light rays The moon is there, use its soft light Food is there, use it as a nutrient Water is there, drink it Cars are there, use them Buses are there, ride them Horses are there, ride them Farms are there, work them In everything there is differences and choices with individual enjoyment. Saying that someone doesnt deserve to create signatures coz they use C4Ds is jus like saying no not go to NY coz i personally dont like it. All this arguments of using or not are pointless. Everyone should stick to their own style of making sigs and be aware of all the other styles that exist amongst other people. Instead of saying what is right or wrong to use, why dont better become someone who teaches your style of sig making? If someone wants to use defaults, who cares, do it If someone wants to use C4Ds, who cares, use them If someone doest want to make sigs, who cares, don't make them I for one have my own way and i will make whatever i want to make and respect whatever others want to make as their work. From me to all the sig makers, good or bad, right way or wrong, congratulations for all your efforts to show something unique and stylish to the rest of us, and good job because we all need differences in everyones work.
I'm confused. Did you take the pictures you use in your sig? The only 100% "made-by-you" tag would have to be handrawn with a pencil and scanned onto a computer. And regarding the 'art' discussion, I consider EVERY SINGLE THING in the WHOLE ENTIRE world to contain/be some kind of art. What part of a sig/tag isn't art?
K2boardin ^^^ I didn't say I make everything in my tag, please read before posting. MaxBorax, I infact posted a very similar post to yours ages ago, I still have it somewhere saying that it is impossible to make something without using something that isn't yours. So I can't say I disagree, but you are trailing off course. I'm talking about people using C4Ds for effect in their tags, when people actually spend hours trying to make the C4Ds, regardless of whether they put them out for free or not, it is a valuable piece of digital art. In the past I have browsed DA and found many LPs using mainly the C4D and some incorporated brushing or vector. So in my eyes this is taking someone elses work, let me repeat this, free or not, and setting it to a mode to make your tag look up. I have read countless number and tutorials and the minute I see the word C4D I dismiss them. Because many of them, most classed as semi-pro say, ''ok u use a gradient and then add a c4d, set this to lighten, add your stock, add another c4d, add another c4d, move it to the right set it to colour dodge, add a gradient map. and there you have ur pro sig!'' [ to that extent ] I'm not saying you SHOULDN'T use C4Ds, but you cannot class this as pro unless you made the C4Ds yourself. This topic is going off course, I'm not saying it is forbidden to use C4Ds, if you use them you are a noob, tags are not art, or anything like that. I'm trying to say that you cannot possibly rank a tag ''Pro'' or any other high rank if it uses C4D that the owner did not make .... <span style=\'color:yellow\'>from my perspective
Although I dont like to say it, sigs are art . 1. the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance. Back to topic. I agree, I mean, theres nothing wrong with using a stock and spending time on a sig and working on it but when it takes 5 minutes and it's just C4D shoved on set to screen it makes the whole point of sigs...pointless. A year and a half back when C4D wasn't used and people didn't want to use brushes, there was a period of everyone just using defaults all the time...every sig looked original and different.
Yup I remember that Broken, are you the same Broken? Did some Pixel art? It was all triggered when Event (who was like a sig legend back in the day) started to do defaults, because he was so idolised everyone wanted to do them, to show really talent I suppose, and I really enjoyed that trend period because it really tested peoples true ability to design.
In that case, Flamesy, I couldn't agree more. Sorry, I tend to get excited and post before reading the majority of a topic.
Hmm, what to say. Put it this way, the issue mentioned in this thread is that using C4d in ur sig isn't wrong, using it FREQUENTLY and NAMED it PRO is wrong? If that's really what the topic is, i agree with it. BUt what's the point in discussing about ppl using C4D in their sig or not? If it makes my sig better, then let it be, original or not, i don't really care. If you don't like ppl using C4d too much, tell them DIRECTLY what you think. Finally, since i saw many stressed that it's just his opinion quite a few times, i think it's time we should let this topic go...
