Use a dilute solution of isopropyl alcohol probably less than 50%, check the % on the stuff you get at the store than mix accordingly. then use a VERY soft cloth...

    or buy

Water, only water. If there is a smudge just use some elbow grease and get it out. You can not clean your LCD like you did with old CRT's.

yeah i used 100% alcohol a while ago, and it burns the screen and instead of having a little streak, you have a computer screen thats covered in a streak that wont come out

ouch, that sounds like no fun...

About the monitor, yeah, as everyone said above, your best bet is just water and a REALLY SOFT cloth with no lint (ie static free). But if you have a buncha gunk and crap that you need to get off, and the water by itself won't work, check on the % of alcohol, and then make sure you don't spray it directly onto the screen, but onto a REALLY SOFT cloth with no lint (static = bad).

Use anything else besides things made for cleaning LCD's, and you're ----ed.
