im using my colleges internet connection. what i had to do was give my physical address to 'them' and they'll give me the i.p.

but they block students from using certain programs (im referring to p2p programs). how do i bypass this with no/nearly no chance of them finding out

Maybe you could find someone to change the coding in the program. Thats my only guess.

sounds complicated. i thought just using proxy server or whatever they're called (not that i know how to) would suffice

to the best of my knowledge the only way to do this would be to change the code... if it is blocking the program from connecting to its server then there is no way to get past it i dont think because using a proxy would still require you to send the data out... so that wouldnt work, why dont you spend a couple of dollers and get your own connection :S

If your college has a crappy network, make yourself an admin so that you are less limited to using things.
I have a word document somewhere will all the info on that.

If the programs allow you to use a proxy, you can just google up free proxy servers to use, and just insert their IP and ports instead using the default one.

You could try using tor. I've heard of college students using it before to get around blocks.

It pretty much sends all the data through a bunch of random servers all over the world, making it near impossible to trace.
