IBM/Lenovo has good laptops that you can customize for cheap. A lot of their parts are on sale right now too so you can get good upgrades for a lot less than they normally go for

How do you think of this Sony VAIO VGN-FZ340E/B 15.4" Laptop? I just received it for $1150 for a couple of days. It features 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 processor, 250 GB hard drive, 3 GB RAM (4 GB max), dual-layer DVD drive (8x DVD+/-R); Quad-mode Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g), 10/100 Ethernet, Bluetooth with stereo music streaming, etc. It works fine for me, like it very much.

When buying laptops, don't worry about how much RAM it includes, as buying extra RAM and installing it yourself is extremely cheap, and as simple as sliding it in.
