dream machines are nice but they don't really last any longer than budget builds. They're basically for bragging rights. Been there done that seen a lot of people buy two 7950 GX2s... then two months later the 8800s came out and they felt like idiots because they could have had better half the cost. rapid obsolecence is both a blessing and a curse. I plan on it happening and go for max bang/$ in the short term under the assumption that future proofing is too costly and that you can sell/buy stuff later down the road if need be. just my philosphy though. and 350W is a bit on the low side. Don't make that have you look for "700W Piece of ---- brand 300W PSU rebadged as 700W" because that's often a huge mistake that some people make. I've had to recommend that people "downgraded" their PSUs to higher quality units which are rated more lowly because their "higher wattage" PSU couldn't put out clean voltage past 200W draw that said listen to LE if I'm too slow to respond to stuff he seems reasonably knowledgeable and his advice is almost as good as mine(if not better in a few cases)
Yeah, I've found that most people when they buy their first "custom PC", they'll want to go all out. However, once you've spent your life savings on an "insane-uber-leet-quad-core-tri-sli-super-death-day-device", just to have it be beaten by midrange stuff in 6 months, you start to focus on bang/$$$.
yep. bang/$ twice as often and selling your old stuff is usually better as far as average-performance/$ goes. I will say though I'm laughing at everyone who spent $$$$ on opteron 180s and DDR2-500 now. conroe just completely owned that and at half the cost.
So what I will do now is stick to the configuration that I posted first and better get myself a Core2Duo instead of a Quad because Xlink said that what I had built is solid and that means I don't need to change stuff except for what RA suggested to be cheaper. Hope this PC of mine lives long enough, not because I want it to be a uber l33t but because I've chosen all the best hardware which is not VERY expensive from most aspects.. So that is it? Should I go for it now?
LOL.. you're funny btw what do you think about this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820220286
DDR3 memory isnt worth the extra money atm because the price/performance isnt much better than DDR2 memory
