To know what to look for comes time and learning.

For the parts wait for some one like diablo or .Defuzion or XMasterX.

My suggestion is to get a 7900GT GFX card

and also what is the build limit? USD? or CAD?

you in the us? so newegg will ship to your house..

    btw, out of your list:

you only really need the following:

    Case
    Mother Board
    CPU
    GFX card
    Sound Card
    PSU
    Hard drive
DVD Drive (dvd drives can read cd's, and dvd burners can burn cd's as well..)
    Cooling Unit

if you can wait a little(should eb less thana month) wait for intel's conroe...

    processor: core2 duo(conroe) E6300 $209
motherboard: to be determined $80-160 depending
RAM: 2GB one of these two
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820231073
DDR2-800 $200(yes I knwo it is pricey but it is good and will automatically OC your proc a moderate amount)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820220095
    DDR2-666 $135(after rebate) good bang/$
GFX card: x1800XT $220 (not great for linux but best bang/$ GREAT CARD, first choice should match 7900GT or even outdo it)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814102698

    or 7900GT $260
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814150139
if you don't need extreme try for a x800GTO still a very good card for around $100

and soem toher stuff... I'll make a bit better fo a list later tomorrow... if you can't wait, get an opteron 165 DDR1 ram and a DFI ultra-d

I don't because you pay a bunch for the newer stuff yet it goes obsolete 2 months after your regular stuff does.

It may go obsolete, but the AMD 64's are still good, and they're quite old...
