Fiancee is wanting a new computer, and before I begin sleeping on the couch - I have to comply. I told her the budget is $1,500, but both her and I(besides some basic stuff) blow at hardware.

The specifics of what the computer will need to do:
I would like a system that can play 3D games like TheSims2 and WoW with ease. This would mean at least 2.6k processor, gig of ram, and a good graphics card(i'm assuming).

Leaving $150 for shipping & handling, build a computer for me. I'll give 50 credits for each person who helps.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

$1500 is a good budget, and can get you everything you want.

I'm making this list from an AMD fan p.o.v. and I also think AMD performs better with games and you can't deny its cheaper.

Mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813131568 (top of the line)

    Processor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103562 (won't let you down)

Video - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814143037 (I wouldn't get anything less, Sims 2 is very demanding)

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820145579 (Good stuff, anything more expensive is just for overclocking purposes mainly)

Power Supply - (last guy forgot this major item) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817341001 (it will get the job done!)

DVD Burner - (we will say $50, just pick something on newegg)

Case - (Im not gonna pick a case, but we will say $70, because its up to you since it is a big part of your comp, looks and all but you cant really go wrong just make sure its an ATX case)

Hard Drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822144701 (again, just depends on how much you need, but you cant really go wrong with Western Digital brand)

Don't know if you needed monitor, but thats basically it (excluding what you might want to add)

    Total Price: 1133.97

Honestly, for what you are doing, you don't need $1500, you really only need about 900 dollars (Including shipping). You should save some money, becuase as long as you are playing Sims, WoW, maybe even Counter-Strike Source, and BF2, you can get a good gaming machine for 900 or less. Just some advice. 600 is quite a bit of money, especially if you can save it =).

I'll post a computer later, but I just woke up, so I'll look at it later. Just make sure its going to be a Conroe E6300 or E6400, becuase those are the best proc's out right now. And also make sure the motherboard is expandable to at least 4 gigs or ram, because it will be needing more in the future of windows =).

Aren't you guys missing some smaller parts such as sound cards, etc?

You don't always need a sound card, you can use intergrated audio, which is basically just as good.

And MotoXXX, the last guy didn't forget the PSU, it came with the case, which means its bad =P.

Use that build, but drop a E6600 into it instead of an E6400, should work fine enough for anything you need.

If you want the expandibility, exchange the X1800XT video card for a 7900GT so that you can SLI them at a later date. Or just dont drop an E6600 into it and buy 2x256 7900GT cards and SLI them from the start, more than enough to run any game out right now.

And um, wtf. Core 2 Duo has come out, and all I see is some fairly mediocre builds (Computer Kid's isnt bad, just not something I like.)

the good computer which will amaze her

    Core 2 duo e6300 OC it a bit 200ish, maybe 6400
    Biostar Tforce 965 150
    2GB DDR2-667 sdram 140ish
    x800GTo graphics card $90
    ePower puma PSU 46.50
    coolmaster centurion case 50ish
    seagate baracuda 320GB harddrive 90$

the above is around 850-900 including tax/shipping. plays most games fairly well and should run fairly smooth.

the comp which will just all out dominate

johns build, swap out the 6300 for a 6400(or maybe the 6600 which will be 320 or so when supply picks up, they are currently in short supply) and drop to the 50$ coolmaster centurion case.

    marforce's build is also solid

and for the record, Core 2 does about twice as much work per GHz as compared to Pentium 4/Ds.
