Okay so I'm having this weird problem with soft brushing and a few other tools.. Basically this is what happens:

As you can see, the edges are really low quality and grainy.. you can also see the different shades as lines O_O

Already tried clearing out photoshop settings at startup (ctrl + alt + shift), to no avail..

    Any help would be appreciated!

I actually encounter this same problem quite often. Any help would be appreciated.

If its that common a problem then its a rather big flaw in the program.. Brushing is such a big thing in Photoshop..

Never had that before. What's the resolution and color mode you have set for your files?

try just using the gradient tool....

if not, fill a new layer any color, go to blending options....lower the "fill" (under opacity) to 0 and then go to gradient overlay and spread the "range"...(at the bottom)...:D

Nope it was a default brush and I don't want to use gradients if they're not needed. And SP, I use RGB 8bit like everyone else.. The problem seemed to be fixed when I changed to 32bit, but made a lot of functions incompatible..
