Well yesterday I went down to futureshop and bought this hard drive.
    http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetai...test%5Fcookie=1

I put in my computer set it as slave and my 40gb as master. Installed the software, got the hard drive working and I go to check how much space is there and it say 186gb. Before it said 127gb but I was playing around with the settings and then got 186gb. Is there any way to get the full 200gb?

    Thanks

    I got a 500GB and only recognises 460GB :(

40GB disappeard in the air - I know some of the space is used for special important data but 40GB is alot to lose lol

I am sure that no-one can get a full amount of the HD

Some of the space is automatically used for the Operating System and other key components that you cant control.
The other space that is lost is due to the fact that manufacturers use a different capacity ratio.
    Hard Drive makers: 1Gb = 1000Mb
    Software/OS makers: 1Gb - 1024Mb

So for every gigabyte they say you have, you actually have 24mb's less.

Not really, it's something you have to know... The 127Gb is limited by your bios, 186Gb is normal.
I recognize your situation, my 500Gb is also only 460Gb..

Operating systems rate by Kilibytes, mibibytes, and gigibytes
Harddrive manufacturers rate by kilobytes, begabytes, and gigabytes

    deal with it.
