    This is not all that surprising to me, as I didn't think he was the richest man alive. However, I thought he was closing in on $70 Billion, so that fact that he is only at $58 Billion is very shocking to me.

    Taxes are a bitch.

    He also gives more to charity than nearly anyone in the US (which, in turn, of course helps how much he owes in taxes).

    Ya I saw this the otehr day... the funny thing is that each of the top 3 people are within 2 billion dollars. Im sure for a person like Bill Gates, he oculd probably make that within a year or less if he stopped his charity. Though when you have that much money I don't think 2 Billion dollars is much.

    Gates is down simply because he gave so much away.
    and I'll be blunt it's looking like any gains they've made are simply due to the depreciation of the dollar. After counting in inflation, gates is actually DOWN a few billion dollars not up 2 bil.

    on another note look how many indians make up the list. not surprising though given how competitive things are in india and how much opportunity for exploitation there is.

    Keep in mind, Gates retired from Microsoft CEO, as noted, and he gave it to someone else, so he is not bringing in as much money as he used to.

    And I'm not surprised that many Indians are up there, they seem to becoming much more wealthy, though I have no idea how.

    Iv heard the reason Bill Has less money is because he gives so much to charity.
