or...you could legally get a trial of photoshop...or use GIMP...its limited but still excellent. tuts aren't really necessary for improving either. the best thing you could possibly do is look at tons and tons of different pieces...and just simply experiment on your own. that's the best way i thought to get a good looking piece.
