Okay, so I was lazy and didnt bother putting an A/V on my computer the last time i reformatted (about 6 months ago) and ofc ended up getting a virus... so im about to go format and I want to know what the best AV/Spyware/Adware protection setup (as in programs). And try to keep it free...
I use AVG Free edition for anti-virus, Zone alarm for my firewall, and ad-aware and Windows Defender for Anti-Spyware. I've been using that since March and I haven't had a virus since.
the best antivirus is a backup of the registry and a windows disc, along with the practice of saving all importatnt stuff to another partition(including programs). That way you can simply reinstall(upgrade/repair or complate) and toss on the backed up registry and you're set to go.
Get Avast, Ad-Aware, CCleaner, Registerycleaner Linkys: Avast: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ CCleaner: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/ Registery Cleaner: http://www.registry-cleaner.net/ And get a good firewall, I'm using Prisma Firewall, since short now: http://www.prismafirewall.com/ Also when reformatting, make several partitions of your hard drive. Ie: Windows on partition one (20gig) Games (80gig) Photoshop work (25gig) Just make sure you have atleast 20gig for windows availible.
Ad-aware is the best program. -easy to use -fast -free Then I suggest you have any form of a firewall, but the paid for ones work better if you have XP, back up your files often, that way if anything goes wrong, set to safe mode, system restore, your done.... infact you can do it in most OS, but its just harder
my setup: AV: Avast Pro, Nod32 Pro AS: Adaware, Microsoft Defender, Spybot FW: I used to use Sygate, but it wouldn't let other computers on my network coonecxt to it..
Thats what im in the middle of on my other computer (the infected one) lmao... I am used to reformatting about once every month or two, so i never traditionally load an a/v on my computer, as far as im concerned its just another program running to slow my overall computer performance down lol anywho... now if i could even get the other computer to boot i may be happy, but if you guys see a "whats the best current setup including monitor, keyboard, and mouse for under $2300" dont sound suprised lmao (yes, its old, no, im not partial to it and yes, i would welcome finally getting a new computer seeing as how the computer i recently bought for about $2000 i gave to a friend for $2300 with the software loaded, so yeah... lol...
not for getting another 300 out of what i spent on it lmao if i was getting paid to load software on it id have done it no problem, but my current computer (you know, the dead one lying on the floor) was doing just fine for what i was using it for, so i didnt see a need for it...
I use.. AV: Avast Home Edition AS: Adaware, Spybot S&D FW: Zonealarm The only problems i get are when i forget to run a spyware scan :S
