Tool is really overrated here. Les Claypool from Primus Tim Commerford from RatM and Audioslave Ben Shepherd from Soundgarden
Blah blah blah. They're overrated. Whenever there's a "who's the best bassist" or "singer" or "drummer" or "guitarist"...Tool Tool Tool Tool Tool. A Perfect Circle to me is way better than Tool...and I adore Tool just as much as the next guy, and have listened to all of their albums. Tool is a fine band, but quite frankly, there's better. Les Claypool will make a fool out of Chancellor. Easily.
In my opinion victor wooten sucks. But I have to say Steve Harris is the best bassist, man his fingers must bleed after every concert. To see those guys fingers move so damn fast is sweet.
I'm not saying anything about them compared to other musicians. I never said Chancellor or Carey or Jones were the best that they were. I was saying that they're a very talented group of musicians. I'm not like the other guy who is like "ZOMGTOOLGUYISGOD" and someone says ---- about him "OMGWTFHESGOOD."
 There are so many better bassists. Then again that's your opinion. There's plenty of competition, though.
i have to agree with you. flea has some mad skills...but nobody else really plays funk like RHCP. funk is definitely the operative word in that sentence however, if you wanted to talk guitarists, there's no keeping john frusciante out of the conversation (but thats not what this thread is about).
I wish people would look outside of the mainstream, there really are so many superior bassists out there. I do not see how anyone could consider Steve Harris or Flea to be the world's greatest bassists. Jaco Pastorius and Sean Malone are my favourite bassists, however I could not say who is the definitive best.
