3DS Max+Vray/Maxwell.

kthx

p.s. : don't make effects. make some GOOD abstracts (no matrix extruding.) or get into modeling.

I'm shocked nobody has mentioned Cinema4D yet. It's for more than just effect renders lol. The entire movie "Open Season" was done in C4D. Not to mention the effects in "Spiderman 3" were too.

Maya? Are you serious?

If you're a beginner in 3D completely forget about Maya. You'll get lost in one click.

I would personally start with either C4D or 3DS Max, as mentioned.

or blender because it's free and open source.
the interface is unlike other 3d programs i've played with, honestly i find it more appealing.

Compared to the hundreds of special effects made with 3DS :|

3DS is like, industry standard.

yes blender is that good. go look on dA. you wont find that many, since as someone said, 3Ds Max is the standard. but what you find is no less than anything any of the others can put out.

thats its free, just 8 mb and doesnt piss all over your system resources are all +'s

since blender is open source it's only limited by the users. so in theory, it's better because it can constantly be updated, whereas other programs such as c4d, 3ds, maya, etc., etc., are limited to what is released at the time.

I don't like Blender all that much.

I think 3dsm is the best of the best, but it is really expensive. :P

You can buy a student copy of c4d for like 200 bucks. And I like c4d almost as much as 3dsm. :)

Cinema 4D + 3DS Max are the top two used ones among the majority of people. Maya is more advanced and complicated.

Go for 3DS Max, or if your intending to buy, go for C4D
