Okay I have been hearing a lot about how great Avast is so I went to their site. I got one of the free serials and before I install that and unistall my other Anti-Virus I was wandering if it really is as great as you guys say. So can I get some feedback on Avast. Currently I use Trend Micro. Trend Micro).
Avast is Norton vamped with 1,000 volts. It kills 98% of viruses, where others are less. 2% are malicious ones, and spyware, that it cant delete, but it should be able to detect it. It can do an At-Boot scan, which allows it to kill viruses that start on start up to be deleted before they start. When it says a virus is found, you can delete it, quarantine it, or rename the file to a different extension so windows cannot use it. On a scale from 1 to 10, I give it a 100000000000... seriously, its the bast free thing out there.
add Avast to it, you can just use it for at-boot scans. and let your other AV protect your computer..
never herad of Avast, but from the opinion of you guys, it seems pretty good. i need a new anti-virus program anyways since mine doesn't update
i recently switched to avast from mcafee and i have been very happy with the results, plus it updates itself and lasts for a year, and u can always go to trend micro and run a scan, atleast thats what i do
i just really like the avast resident scanner this is what the scanner does Internet Mail: - Scan outbound mail [SMTP] - Scan inbound mail [POP3] - Scan inbound mail [IMAP] - Scan inbound news [NNTP] - Scan outbound news [NNTP] - Heuristic sensitivity: medium Instant Messengers: - MSN Messenger - ICQ - Trillian Messenger Network Shield: - Show messages Outlook: - Scan inbound and outbound mail - Scan unread messages on open - Heuristic sensitivity: medium P2P Shield: - Kazaa & KazaaLite - Direct Connect - Direct Connect++ Filesystem: - Scan selected files on write - Scan selected files on open Web Shield: - Scan HTTP traffic and its always in your task bar protecting your computer you can have it on medium or high
yep, updates are fast and automatic, and updates are avaible at least 3 times a week. And after your serial expires, you can get a new serial by signing up again!
yeah all you have to do is put in your email and they send you a free serial number that gives you free updates for a year and when that years over just reregister by putting in your email and they will send you another!!
Man norton totally screwed up my first computer i had to hav a new hard drive installed. it was so bad it wouldnt even let me format it.
that's not necisarilly Norton's fault... It's probably a virus that did that, that Norton couldn't detect.. Did you try to Low-level format it? That's where it writes '0's all across the disk, like what a brand new hdd has on it. If that didn't work, then your virus deleted the level 0 information, which tells the bios what it is, and it's good for a paperweight...
I made the switch to avast! Anti-Virus b/c of your guys comments. I do like it more then my old one so far but one question does it have a firewall? If not can you reccomend a free one I can use.
