Please read this An Indonesian court has sentenced two Australian men to death by firing squad for playing a key role in attempting to smuggle heroin from the island of Bali. The so-called "Bali nine" were convicted of trying to smuggle more than 8.3kg (18lb) of heroin from Indonesia to Australia Some were detained at Bali's airport with heroin strapped to their bodies while others were arrested in a nearby hotel room. A three-judge panel at the Denpasar District Court decided on Tuesday that Sukumaran, 24, should face the death penalty for his part in the plan. In a separate trial, 22-year-old Chan was also told he would go before a firing squad. Indonesia has increasingly become a transit route for drug traffickers, and courts across the country have toughened up on offenders in recent years, sentencing several foreigners to death for serious drugs offences. Another Australian, beauty therapist Schapelle Corby, was found guilty of smuggling marijuana into Bali and sentenced to 20 years in jail last May. Discuss on 'do you think this is a reasonable penalty death sentence'
Well, it's all the news here down under. That's right, the 'Bali 9' have been sentenced, 7 got life sentences while the two that planned the smuggling have been sentenced to death by firing squad. There's massive controversy on the judgement but we can't really do much but ask for clemency...
I personally don't think people should really be killed. I do however approve of scare tactics. Death sentence for drugs, usually keeps drugs out. If you get caught, and it's the law, game over, I guess.
I dont think the death penalty is fit for that. That would be way harsh punishment. A 5 year sentence is more like it.
I think that is a good choice. I bet you if we had that kind of justice system here in the USA, there would be alot less drugs, killing, rapes, and stealing that there is right now.
Lol Thailand has a very high crime rate, you have capital punishment in some states in America and that doesn't affect the crime rate.
I personaly dont think he should be shot, but they're using scare tactics, Maybe it will stop Drug Trafficing through indonesia, or atleast lower it
Yes we do have the death penalty in America, but what you don't realize is that we rarely use it. If we had an "eye for eye" justice system in America we would be better off. For instance, in Iraq a man was found guilty of pouring acid over a ladies eyes, blinding her for life. He didn't go to jail, instead he had acid poured over his eyes for punishment. I guarentee you they have less acid cases then we have here in America. That is the point I'm trying to make.
