Ok lets see if anyone here knows whats going on before I go to Geek Squad or something.

My POS laptop seems to be having some sort of audio problem, I was sitting down listening to Winamp while on my website's forums with the volume pretty low. Next thing I know I can barely hear it and so I check to see if its mute or not then I blast the volume to max but you can still barely hear it and it soundds fuzzy too. Any ideas what is up with my Laptop, and please don't say its going to cost anything cause if thats the case then I'm just going to throw this $&@%er against a wall and set it on fire then.

    Thanks for the help

Well, since it sounds fuzzy or low, then I think you can cross out an option or a box you need to to tick as the problem.

Maybe drivers. Find out the make etc etc of your audio...stuff then go to the site and DL the latest drivers.

    Could just be old/crappy speakers/hardware?

Those are first things that come to my head.

if you blew up something you can test this by puttin external speakers on the laptop... it the sound on the speakers is okay with the same settings you have blown the unit..
    so test this out..

if the sound is still the same its a software problem.
then I suggest you check the advanced settings for the soundcard in the control panel. Maybe its setup for the wrong speaker setup (headset, dolby etc)

start> run> dxdiag> sound tab then turn the slide bar to basic acceleration
