I don't care. I think that when people say that they are "99.7 percent certain" that it will miss, we can rest easy.
99.7 don't mean crap, that .3 percent is still something. Depending on the speed of the asteroid we could fire a small non-explosive rocket at it from the side and try to push it away. Merged Post: If we try to destroy we could potetualy make it MORE deadly by giveing the asteroid a fragmentation effect. sorry for the typo...
Not to long ago they said there was an asteroid that they thought was going to hit somewhere in America but that didn't tell anyone because it was too late to do anything and they didn't want to cause panic. Then an amateur astronomer discovered that it had already passed That's what they said on the news anyway. But back to this topic like they said if it's still a threat in 2014 was it? or sometime around then, they will start planning missions to stop it from going into the keyhole.
 it already passed.. though, if it got blown up with different pieces of the asteroid going in different directions.. it'd give a better chance of most the pieces burning up in our atmosphere
Very true, and they wouldn't just shove a nuke on there and blow it up im sure they would plan it to get as much of it to go in a different direction or somthing.
yeah if you "nuked" the atseroid it'd either do ---- all, or just make it spread even more, making all of it break up and land even further away than the thing was meant to. because if you're going to nuke it, you're not going to nuke it like 10 meters before it hits.. you'd prolly shoot your missles up while its way up in the sky still in space or something. and then GG world then, gg it anyway even without it exploding everywhere. unless ofcourse.. the rocks were broken up alot from the missles that they weren't heavy enough to hit earth and floated up in space
or instead of, nuking it, they could do Armageddon (the bruce willis movie) styles, land on the rock, plant the nuke when its still in space.. and the movie tells the rest of my story
It's amazing that they gave us a really exact date. The asteriod may hit but I always say that we should look on the bright side of things but prepare for the worst. I always do that most of the time As stated earlier, .3 is really something even if little. That should be able to help us alot right?
that could totally help, nudging it offcourse.. it'd be alot better than blowing it up into individual pieces
