Just saw the headline, take a read: Asteroid Threat

its still a long time untill it could happen, and who knows where our technology will be in the next 30 years, we could figure out it wont even hit us, or we could have more technology to do more than just nudge it off course

Odds of Earth being hit by an asteroid is pretty slim, I mean really slim. But hopefully we'll be able to deflect the asteroid in the future.

yes it's very slim, but as it states at the top:

Then again, 30 years is a good amount of time. If it is even slightly moved in its path toward Earth, it could miss the planet by a lot.

Are you kidding me? Earth gets hit by an asteroid every 10 hours. Just because 100,000 asteroids hurtle past (with could be thousands of miles away) our planet, does not mean that its actually big enough to even hit the Earth. I bet 99,000 of these asteroids just burn up in the atmosphere.

"According to projections, an Apophis impact would occur somewhere along a curving 30-mile-wide swath stretching across Russia, the Pacific Ocean, Central America and on into the Atlantic. Managua, Nicaragua; San José, Costa Rica; and Caracas, Venezuela, all would be in line for near-direct hits and complete destruction. The most likely target, though, is several thousand miles off the West Coast, where Apophis would create a 5-mile-wide, 9000-ft.-deep "crater" in the water. The collapse of that transient water crater would trigger tsunamis that would hammer California with an hour-long fusillade of 50-ft. waves. "

    Yep :P

I'm not worried about it at all, the odds are extremely good and if they still consider it a threat they said they can slow it down by 0.0001 moving far enough across so that it would miss the keyhole. If worst comes to worst people can try to evacuate the area which it will impact most. But if they are correct on where it will hit I don't need to worry down in Australia. :)

I find it pretty kickass that we can tell the exact date and time they are hitting lol.
