    Yeah, those where when I was just starting with GIMP too, though I did have around 2yrs of Photoshop experience before I made those so since I knew what the effects in Photoshop did I had a better understanding of what I needed to recreate in GIMP.

    Iwarp and the smudge tool will be very helpful to you. After that, just mess around with the filters a bit. And your layer options are pretty cool too. I haven't used Gimp in a year or two but I was at the point where I was working as well there as I was in PS.

    Send me a PM if you need more in depth suggestions.

    smudge with the vine brush with one spacing and not 100 percent opacity just a little lower also use c4ds don't over use them and only add them to add flow to the sig lower the opacity on them and such i might as well show some of my tags i made in gimp haha but yeah use the vine brush and use the spark brush on displace that works too haha here's some of my sigs that i made in gimp :P

    I think I used a chalky brush, adjustment layers, and a lot of C4D that I don't have anymore :(.When you use brushes I think you gotta erase the edges because they don't blend right.

    I suggest you get some resources, like brushes, stocks, and tons of c4ds; they help a lot! =D

    oh, another GIMP topic. :D

    let me just say this:

    GIMP's a great program. it's what i've been using for over 2 years now (before then i used PS CS2). i still have PS, but i like GIMP better, so i use it instead.

    furthermore, the so-called Photoshop effect is just the result of experience. as you get better in GIMP, your work will look more polished. don't give up, just practice.

    here's some examples of stuff you can do in GIMP when you're really experienced:
