If your PC isnt that great, get CoD1 and CoD:UO. Great single player missions and the online gameplay is even better!
The SourceForts Mod for CS:S/Half-Life 2 DM is a VERY addictive game/mod. Plus, since it's a mod, it's free.
halo 2 was released something like 2 years ago for the xbox. it didn't look too good then and from what I understand it hasn't exactly been reworked all too much for the PC version. It's just PR crap from M$.
I think a lot of people would disagree with that. Halo is largely regarded as THE FPS of this generation of games, since the millenium in otherwords, and Halo2 did nothing but expand on the original and add some very addictive online multiplayer modes in to the mix. However you are right that it hasn't been updated since the original release. As for other games, basically the Battlefield series, the Counter Strike series, Joint Ops is quite good, COD series all are pretty immersive FPS with good online games. Halo is also out on PC, and if you like a good realistic shooter, or can do LAN gaming multiplayer, the Black Hawk Down games are very nicely done though ageing a bit now.
