Well, this is my second c4d tutorial, and I'm too lazy to go into too much detail about some of the specifics. So, if ya haven't read my first c4d tutorial, plz do so.

    Okay... here we go.

    1. Select the platonic object, and make it Octa in the properties.

2.Hit "c" on your keyboard to make the object editable. Then select the polygon tool, and hit ctrl+a. Right-click the object, and select Extrude. Give it these attributes...

Make sure preserve groups is NOT checked. 100 m offset, apply.

3.Hit ctrl+a again to get all the new polygons you just created. Right-click again and select bevel this time. Give it these attributes...

41 m offset and inner extrusion.

    4. Ctrl+a again. Right-click...clone. Give it these attributes...

    offset 1200 m, rotation 1280º

    5. Now, select the object tool and rotate until you get something like this...

    6. in that same pic, you see where to find the bend deformer. open 1 and drag and drop it inside the platonic object. Give it these attributes...

    unlimited, -45 strength.

    7. select the platonic, then hit ctrl+c, then ctrl+v to copy and paste the object. Rotate the new object like so...

    8. Now select both objects either by holding and scrolling the mouse over both objects in the object menu, or clicking one, and then holding shift, click the other.

    9. Right-click the highlighted objects in the object menu, and select group objects.

    10. Copy and paste again. Rotate like so...

/*Where reading my first tut comes into play*/

    11. Add perspective and rotate the object until you find a view you like.

    12. Add materials.

This is what I have at this point...

    13. Use the render settings mentioned in my first tutorial.

    14. Shift+R, and you're done.

Remember this is a basic tutorial, and is meant for the purposes of showing different ideas. Experiment a little and learn. ;)

Ouch... I only paid around $350 for mine. Proof that education pays in more ways than one.

Any more comments on the tutorial? Lots of people were asking me to make another... so I did. More comments on how to improve the tutorial are appreciated. ;)

I was actually thinking of trying to make chain links with similar steps. We'll see how it turns out.
