http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814142052 Thats the same one I have. Without even unlocking pipelines, I can get almost any game on max settings. Examples: Half-life 2, Battlefield 2, and (I think) CoD2 on max settings.
Then there is no point in spending so much money if you are going to overclock. If you are going to I suggest the x2 4400+ (it will reach the same max oc a 4800+ can) or a opteron 165. Playstation dont post in computing if you dont know what you are talking about. Opertons ARE SERVER PROCESSORS!!! Thats why they are higher quality. Finally dont get a x1600, it might feature SM3 and HDR but its a poor card because it only has 128bit memory, newegg is wrong by stating that it has 256bit. Get that gto that diablo said.
omfg, i know its dual core but it still offers good single thread perfomance. ugh :censored: and opterons are for servers amd workstations u twat. that kind of power isnt nessacary for home/gaming use. i dont see any rigs in lan parties or games with ppl using opterons.
yeah i spose. well w.e anyways, i found this cpu comparison article and it mite help. its not completely up to date but im sure it will help in some way. http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html according to most of the tests i had a look at what ppl were discussing before, an fx 57 is better than a x2 4800. But i spose most of the tests are single thread applications anyway.
what if its not best buy but another store near you?...ex. circuit city and such.. best one to get is.. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...d=1125466176093
LOL second rate parts for you. YOu are settling for a computer that woudl have been good about 1.5 years ago.
people get athlon FXs all the time and the FXes are almost a complete rip off of the opertrons in terms of core architecture. Don't say people don't need that kind of power, because technically, noone needs computers for personal use at all. if you're talking about power consumption though, it shouldn't use any more than a similarly clocked x2.
2nd or 3rd quarter next year. and just because they are made with server and workstation use in mind doesn't mean they cannot be used for a standard desktop, i mean heck they are even made to fit into a desktop motherboard.
In order of power/usefulness for desktops: Intel Pentium V(will likely be called Core Duo and will be two Pentium Ms combined dual core, slightly behind the X2s, but better on power consumption/heat) AMD athlon X2 AMD Opertron AMD athlon FX 60 and up
