He said he doesn't care how much it is so he probably doesn't care where he gets it from.

But Newegg is a great place to save money on computer parts :).

it's not an athlon x2, but it is dual core and 939...

they do blow the athlon X2s away though(not by a ton)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....srchInDesc=Dual

as you can see the prices line up fairly closely, but not quite. These
are more or less athlon FXs(the FXs are really close to opertrons)

these cost about 5% more, but they have unlocked multipliers for overclocking and they have the added benifit of being more efficient overall per clock.

i would recommend waiting for the fx-60 dual core, or the new socket M2 which is dual core.

just OC the 2.4GHZ opertron a little, it would be like the same thing. can't disagree with you on aM2 though.

the only difference i saw from the x2's and the opertrons is that the opertrons had half as much L1 cache, and isn't that kinda big?

    you mean TWICE AS MUCH...

they also have unlocked multipliers for overclocking...

they also are designed somewhat better and have higher quality standards. They are server processors, they are a higher grade of processors, just as the FXs are above the normal athlon 64s, in fact, the FXs are almost a complete rip off of the opertrons FYI.

A X2 4800+ would be the best. but I would say for gaming the new Athlon 64 FX-60 for a small $1000 :P
