i am sooo confused. is am2 also know as 940 socket?.. i keep reading they're the same socket and some people say it isnt the same socket. anyone know?
the original socket 940 was intended for server use, massive SMP configurations etc. it requires registered memory. am2 has 940 pins, but doesn't support multiple processors, runs off of a diferent memory standard, and does nto require registered memory. the pins are aranged diferently and s940 and saM2 procs are not interchangeable, aM2 was adopted to help avoid confusion.
