So I'm currently thinking of building a new PC, I'm debating on waiting for Core 2 availability or go with a Athlon 64 3500 or 3700(X2's are still quite expensive) or even a Pentium D 805/820 and OC it.

If i were to get a Core 2 I'd probably get an E6400 and probably OC it a touch.

Besides the CPU/Mobo these are the parts I'm currently looking at

    RAM: OCZ Gold DDR2-800 2x1GB CL5-5-5-12

GFX Card: PNY GeForce 7900 GT

    HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA2

    DVDRW: BenQ DW1655 Lightscribe DVD+RW

Sound Card: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

Case: Antec P180 ATX Advanced Mid Tower Aluminum Case

    PSU: Antec SP-500 Smartpower 2.0 500W

CPU Heatsink: Scythe Ninja Plus Heatpipe Fanless Heatsink

Fans: 2x ( 1 for CPU one in the Case) Nexus 120MM Real Silent Case Fan BLACK/WHITE 1000RPM

    Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 940B 19IN

Keyboard: Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard USB Black Silver

Mouse: Razer Copperhead Tempest Blue 2000DPI 7

    Speakers: LOGITECH Z-5300E

I am trying to keep this under 2300$ CAD.

I'd like some opinions on parts and if i should change anything.

Canadian Sites where you can find prices in CAD.

Not sure what your money situation is, but you can save a fair chunk of change by downgrading on the keyboard and other "luxuries". The G15 really does look nice and everything, but I've got one of the Logitech Elites and it gets the job done perfectly. The G15 is just a waste in my eyes, why spend 60 (70 and change in your case) when you can save money and get something that does just as good a job?

If comfortable spending that much then the setup is looking fine. I'm looking at it from a more constricted stand point so I'd cut costs where ever possible.

    gfx card: radeon x1900gt
if your gonna spend that money, minus some other luxery and add $35 for the x1900gt

    case: case
just as good case, bit more because it comes with the PSU that you were gonna buy seprate.

    ram:
    ram
your ram chosen isnt bad, but that is a bit better. i know you cant go from newegg, so if you can find it elsewhere for a good price, get it :)

Edit: Nvm, stick with that RAM. I searched all those sites you listed and that is definally the best bang/$.

I changed the Case to an

    Antec Solo

    Keyboard/Mouse to a
    Logtiech MX 3000 Combo

And between the 7900GT/X1900GT I think i'll probably go with whatever's cheaper at the time as it seems performance is quite similar. Unless they can be unlocked easily then I'd get the x1900.

Oh and i changed an Nexus 120mm fan to 2 92mm's

only reason i recommded that case is because the price is good. seems like a nice, reliable case and it comes with a very nice PSU.

the x1800xt can overclock to preformance of a 7900gt, probably even higher. i can only imagine how much better the x1900 would be compared with the 7900gt after OCing.

Anyone else have an opinion on the X1900GT VS the 7900GT?

beyond the ATI VS Nvidia debate
