You need to determine what Photoshop has allocated for scratch disk space.
Edit > Preferences > Plug-Ins and Scratch Disks

You can allocate up to four scratch disks. If you have more than one hard drive, or multiple partitions, you can set up to four scratch disks for use with Photoshop.

On my desktop, I have a partition on my second drive with 60 gigs allocated to design applications (scratch disk space). The more scratch disk space you allocate, the more efficiently Photoshop will run and the less it will bog down your computer's RAM.

    Hope this helps.
