GameRenders is slowly but surely dying. Simple as that. It may be because of the "Steal Money" item. It may be because of the lack of stuff posted for free anymore. All I know is that I don't want to see this site turn into another <acronym title='completely died'>ChaosGFX</acronym> so here are some suggestions I have that might help get the old GR back.

    Free Resources
I remember back when Users Aid was in it's prime. People actually donated and did things for free. The only way to get members to start doing stuff like this again is if the staff starts doing it first. Also, this goes for the Diamond and Platinum resource packs too.

    the reason for this is

the steal credit item.. like you said
    and imo the biggest problem

    "spam heaven"

    and everyone knows it ..
people don't care for other things on GR, just spam heaven
they only post useless ---- on there

and i know it's the spam section but still

hit it dead on imo, thats why PR is so active imo
I don't make sigs or renders anymore

Majority of the people came for renders, now that you have closed prem renders to regular members, whats the point of the people who actually posted to sixty post staying on this site when they can go to PR for renders.

no offense to the site, PR render system is so much better, no 60 second wait when searching for renders, specific sections for each render, it probably takes constant management though.

edit I agree with kovan as well, Spam Haven was funny at first, but now it is becoming retarded same with the last word section

IMO, people just got too gready and unfriendly. I know i have flamed a fair bit, but if you look at my posts in the signature sections etc. you will see i'm quite friendly and helpfull.

And the staff ------ed it up quite a bit too.. Banned too many people way too quick and basicly stopped the flow of GR.

    My history kinda :

I was really into gfx > made a really popular .gif shop (was having a great time, helping people and earning creds + rep) > got into the off topic/general discussion as a good guy > got suspended for calling the flamers (maj, box, etc..) idiots

At that point i thought.. ------ it, if this is how staff treat theare members i don't want to be a part of it.
Didn't visit GR for a couple of months after that..

Then, got back and fell in love with off topic. Started making a lot of posts (back when it was really active), but then, box got banned. Again, i kinda left gr..

Got back, started posting in off topic and got a nice little group together (dinges being my best friend here on GR) who all posted really funny ---- in OT.
Then school started again and since then, gr has been really dead tbh.. The core is still there, and i have lots of laughs reading the topics, but we're dying. We just don't have enough members left to become an active community. That, + some key members becoming staff (which normally means they turn into easysnipers).

Removing spam heaven would be silly.. Its a fun place when you get to know it. Lots of people that never stopped by spam heaven are now well known there and have a good time (for example, Jcoca <3).

Sure, you can't always have great members joining.. some people are just pricks. BUT if you support the core of GR, the rest will soon follow.

Maybe we could set up a GR activity group or something like it?

    Last thing i'll say :

GR has always been an awesome place for me to visit. I'd hate to see it go just because of some bad staff descissions or some idiot members. Rise above it and make GR into a great forum again!

@rummage : how the ------ would you know? i haven't seen you in OT/SH for ages.. Just because you see 1 bad topic doesn't mean they all suck.

EDIT : GR was dying before the credit steal item, though.

I agree 110% with the OP...I dont see a problem with spam heaven, it causes a lot of comic relief for myself as well as many others. And posting in there is pretty great, previous to me posting in SH...all i did was sigs...and comment on sigs. And theres nothing wrong with that at all, but SH provides some depth than:

"OMG good work on that...love the colors...8/10"

I think if SH was removed...it would quicken the death of GR.

And I think HaVoC is on track with the plan to breath some life into GR...and it has to start somewhere...so if Im needed for anything....HaVoC or whomever...PM me and let me know, Id love to help out GR anyway I can...

I'd be willing to help out with stuff if I'm wanted. I have a bunch of ideas for great contests.

I agree taht the credit steal item was a huge contribution to the downfall, but I think that members' greed had a lot to do with it. Everyone wants more credits for their work, and now, what would have been called a lot of credits a while back, is no longer treated as such. This means, that contests have to have huge rewards for people to think they're worth their time, rather than doing it for fun anymore.

I have some great ideas for cool contests, but I'm not sure anyone would even want to participate.

About renders, this ought to be more of a render-based community, considering its called GameRenders, but nobody really uses renders in their tags anymore. These days it's all about stock photos.

Like Morv, I've left the community twice. I began rendering in 2005, but I had no skill so I left for a while. I became more involved with several small graphics communites that were much more close-knit, and I was able to learn a lot more about photoshop. I then came back and realized how to render with the pen tool and became good at that. Once I became good, I tried to start up a rendering crew, but the problem is that no one was very active. I tried to create us a private forum so we could talk and store our renders there, but Logicaly found out and busted our crew for it. Well, in the end, she let us reopen it after I deleted the forum, but it was much harder to organize our stuff and so we died out. And then I left GR again. Now I've kinda come back, not posting as much as I was before I left, but still a little bit. The problem is that with school going on, I have very little time and rendering can't be done quickly. My CG witch render took me almost 2 months to complete.

I remember when I first registered on this site/forum on December '05 this place was blasting with activity...it has kind of declined and i'm really sad to see it go down...i've always loved GR and sure i registered on chaosgfx and it was a fun website but it was never gamerenders. now, i'm afraid the forum lifespan is coming to end...which means...even gamerenders can't live forever :(

and, yes i do agree with the money stealing item...don't like it, never did like it, never will like it. it probably did lead alot of people to leave the place.

and like you said...this place is all about making credits and selling them...what happened to making graphics, renders, etc. and sharing them for a 'small' price or even free. thats when the community of GR really grew.

anyways, its really sad to go through imo.

Frankly, GR was dying way before credit steal was implemented.

People have real lives, they can't be expected to stay on GR for 5 hours a day posting. On EVERY forum it starts to die down in the wintertime.

    Just face it. <_<

And rummage has a point, why would members sign up to post 60 times or pay 5 bucks for a membership when they can just type in an extra 2 letters to get the renders for free?

yeah, and imo rid the limit for the prem renders as well, and if you get the gallery work I would even try rendering again,

When people type in "render" or 'renders" on Google planetrenders comes up first

And this site called, Premium Renders, I mean premium renders is not even a year old

and this was even before Gamerenders, http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/topic/Renders-452-1.html

a forum topic with a list of places to get renders

    I typed "Game renders"

Gamerenders was #1 and #2 and planet renders was number #3

    but for "video game renders"

    PR was #1
    ___________________________

I know I keep on comparing the site to PR, but its just a good example, and such

on a side note, who the hell has heard of Premium Renders?

lol this premium renders looks like such a cop[y of this site, lol at the splash on the front

There's always going to be video games, and there's always going to be people making graphics.
Besides I dunno about you but having a ridiculous amount of people on a forum would suck. You start one thread and within seconds it's 3 pages long with the same crap that's in the rest of these threads. Just by 10x more people. I prefer the smaller community forums.
I just came back after 2 years away, and it seems fine with activity. Unless you don't feel challenged enough graphic-wise and need more competition. In which case if you win SOTW 5 weeks in a row, then maybe i'll start understanding why you want more people active.

But I don't understand what you want? People are rendering. People are entering the competitions. People are posting.
