Was curious who else can't draw but loves to mess with photoshop for graphics. Now I am not talking about those that can't draw top notch that like to say they can't draw, I mean those of us who can't actually draw.. Having to stick to drawing stick figures, Do u find it hard to be able to create much in photoshop lacking this skill?

I know me personally I can't draw (A stick dog is my limit and that doesn't even turn out right) , I tend to find it hard to create things in photoshop cause of this (Interfaces , Awesome sigs (Fkin pen tool) Vector images , etc.. Anyone else like this?

Is there any advice to help with this problem?

Well, when I decided I wanted to do graphic design for a living, a buckled down and taught myself how. I normally was never particularly good, but I just bought a few drawers' anatomy books and started learning about proportions, and read a few good online tutorials, and I am now at the stage where I can sketch out an Illustration for a design, and have it end up very nice once it's been through Illustrator.

Well I can't even draw stick figures properly (Epic fail) and I can make things in Photoshop. There is no problem or real relation tbh.

The only time they correlate is when you use a tablet...or maybe Illy but I don't dabble with that. I only know Photoshop and that's tabletless so yeah...

    Mmmm I'm just like this.
I fail to draw a stickman.

However, I fail to make a good tag too, so, meh. :P

It depends on what type of work you do. Sure, photo/stock manipulation doesn't really need any drawing ability, but that'll only get you so far. Right now I'm working full time freelancing as a graphic designer, and I use pencil and paper for everything from logo design, illustration, apparel design, typography (been doing a lot of this lately), gig poster/flyer designs, web design etc etc.

It's one of the rudimentary skills of graphic design. However it is not in anyway a limiting factor for sig design, which is what 99.99% of this community do exclusively, so my argument is lost on deaf ears.

Learning to draw well teaches you how to appreciate everything about graphic design - composition, shading, color, etc. All successful graphic designers (actually successful, not working scattered freelance and living in a ---- hole apartment) can draw quite competently, and along with this, all Art Schools will require you to take one, if not more drawing classes.

I was drawing on real paper recently (I have a tablet, so that's rare), and every time I made a mistake I would reach for the undo button I have on my tablet, only to remember that I have to erase

    I'm a relatively horrible drawer.

Generally, I think drawing may help you initially but as soon as you're established in Photoshop, it really doesn't have implications.

The concept that to be a successful graphic designer you -have- to be able to draw, is rubbish. It helps certainly, but it's definetely not a necessary skill.

    Erasers :3

...sadly max opacity is only like 85%-95%

I can draw decently... but normally just nonsense. I want to get better though, probably going to take some classes eventually. My perspective is pretty crappeh...

    My sort of drawings:

Your not bad at all Mantis :) Your drawings are really nice, but probably not gonna get many buys off a drawing you took a picture of >.> I see what looks like flash and whatever is behind it

edit: btw if that's not flash then kool xD
