I have a dell dimension 8300. I am looking to either build a new pc or upgrade this one for my gaming.

The Dell has a p4 2.6 ghz processor, 768 mb ram, and GeForce FX 5200 on 8x AGP. I only have about 600 to spend. Any help would be appreciated

I would suggest making your own, there are a few threads around here about building computers. I also would suggest AMD, rather 64 bit or not, at least 1gig of ram, and 128 video ram.

He can't really build a good comp with 600$ though...
Just buy a gig ram, which is about $75 CAD here in downtown. A new video card.. Like a Geforce 6800GT or something better even.. And then save for a new processor.

Im not good with Gfx cards so I will stay away from that..

But..if you upgrade to 1 gig of ram get two sticks of 512..and try something like these:

as for processor, I also say go with a 64bit AMD..

If you decide to get the above memory there are a few combo deals to save u bout 15 extra bucks..
    here's two:

I'm still new to processors but this seems to be pretty good..
