Lately I've been finding myself visiting car sites and just save all the images and cut out the cars. Now I was wondering, after the cars are cut out, can I call them renders or are they just loose images?

well here on GR it are renders yes.
but normally it would be a cutout.

renders are actually rendered 3d images.

Yes you can call them renders, if you cut them out from their bg.

I erase the background and just keep the car itself. So it is a render? And do you guys happen to know how to change the background from those grey white dots to something else? Since it's kind of confusing when cutting out the cars :)

    somewhere in preferences.
else jsut make a new layer,
and fill it with white/nlack, any color you like, and then just move it under your car layer.

I use Adobe Photoshop CS2 but I don't see anything in the preferences section that actually change it for me :). I will try the layer thing though ^^.

    EDIT: Found it, thanks.

Is the bg one colour, or is it like a scene? If it is one colour and you use the magic eraser i dont think you can say you rendered that...right?

I was using the Eraser and the Background eraser, the car had a grassy background with a few trees, I removed everything but the car.

Use the pen tool or the poly lasso tool. Those are the only tools that most people use here. Not the magic wand or the eraser tools.

Be sure to save them on a transparent background and as a .png file.

use the search button and search rendering tutorial and it will tell you how to do it properly, and the white and grey dots mean its transparent so if its transparent save it as a png and post it :)
