Ok ... so I heard about the max fps command on call of duty 2 and on other games and thought it was just a joke ... but it is not. I decided to try it out. I was gettin 91 FPS ... which is pretty reasonable for High settings but I just wanted to see how much it improved. It took some tweeking to perfect the number (can be from 1 - 1000) but I got it. I put the max fps on 300 and I was getting 230 FPS. Thats a masive boost ... from 91 to 230. So you should try it out as well ... maybe it works with other games to. The command in Call of Duty 2 is \com_maxfps ... then put any number you want. Just a suggestion ... don't put it anywhere below 100 or you wont see any performance change. And if you put it below 10 ... well ... you'll lag like crazy. Hope this helps to all of you game players. :D

Just telling you, it depends what is on screen. If you are squad fighting in the open, your FPS will go down. Indoors, it shall go up. 125 FPS with awesome jumps is the only FPS I need.

By the way, why would you put your settings on high? It's not worth it. Even though you don't have SLI, just set it to optimize on SLI. It would bring it up on a Radeon card too... :D

    Now I sleep.

they have had this in CS/CS:s/HL/HL2 forever: "FPS_max 500"

I really don't see the point though, most screens don't refresh more than 100 times/second and after 30 FPS you can't really tell.

Ok ... what you say is not true ... I read on www.gamespot.com and on other gaming websites and in PC Gamer magazine that the optimize for SLI doesn't work with one card. What it does is it gives you a "fake" FPS reading that is higher ... when really ... you lag more when it's on ... so don't turn it on if you have only 1 video card. I have tried this myself as well ... I did get about 5 more FPS ... but it seemed that I was lagging.
And ... about the Max FPS command ... I compared these settings in the middle of a large map with smoke grenades thrown all over it ... my FPS ranged from about 180 - 300 FPS ... so I just took a low average of that. :D Smoke didn't hurt my FPS one bit. They only dropped about 10 while in the smoke and 5 while shooting ... so out of 200+ ... thats good ... so just take my advice

doesn't really "improve" your fps, but just removes the cap ^^

actually, only on approximately 0.001% of monitors, or at horrifically low screen resolutions and even then it isn't nopticable to the human eye. trust me, there is a reason why my game seems jerky when I rapidly move the mouse back and forth even though I'm getting a few hundred FPS, both my screen and my eyes simply cannot keep up. Try moving your hand back and forth realy really fast if you don't beleive me.

Yup, thought so. When I entered that, it did absolutely nothing. Looked the same, said the same.

    2.5GHz Celeron D <_<
    768MB RAM <_<
    GeForce 6600GT (OCed to 575 core / 1060MHz Memory)
    40GB + 300GB ATA133 HDD
    SB Live! sound card

Oh, and it's not possible to have 1.5 GB of RAM in Dual channel, because no one makes 768MB sticks.

Well ... the default FPS for the game is 85 ... and by entering the maxfps command ... you let it go higher. My computer was trying to go higher FPS ... but the game was limiting it. That's I think I saw the massive change in FPS.

lol mate its the opposite of that

cl_maxfps adds a cap to ur fps so that say ur on a 60 hertz monitor with 120 fps, ur monitor cant keep up with wats going on so u cap it to 60 with cl_maxfps 60 xD
