    Gaming :P

GFX card wise I'd probably go for a 800GTO. Also do you need a monitor and such or just the tower?

GFX card go for the X1900XT..
MOBO: anyone that has dual core capablity
CPU: anything dual core that or a 3.0ghz(intel) or a 2.2ghz(AMD)
    HDD: something with 7200 RPM
Sound card is not really needed
RAM: 1 gig is great, if you don't have the money 512 works fine.

I think thats pretty much it. This doesn't include case, monitor, or ketboard+mouse.

Wow, thank you all for your input! I do need a monitor, it doesn't have to be a 19". It could be a 15" or 17", I don't care. I have a mouse I could use, and I can just get a cheap keyboard somewhere around here. I'll look over your replies either tomorrow or tonight sometime. Thank you once again!

MY GOD THIS TOPIC IS SAD. YOU GUYS HAVE NO CLUE WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

a monitor too? gosh, that puts you at like... $550 for the computer.. hmm, you'll probably be getting a pentium d 805 (overclock the ---- out of it), 1 gb ddr2 667 (preferbly ddr2 800, but the motherboards get more expensive for ddr2 800). for graphics card (as mentioned above), the x800gto (and no, it doesnt 'fry like a pig', shut up.) for a hard drive, probably a 200 GB Cavier or Seagate Barracuda with PRM technology (should be around $80.) Then a NEC CD/DVD R/RW. a case... hmm, probably the Aspire X-Plorer (around $75). comes with a PSU that will suit your needs.

ill get you links and total price later.

Also... if you dont have the money, 1 gb will do. if you have the money, 2 gb is 'great'. just to revize something said before.

fry's is only a good deal if the item is on sale and even then yoiu're still ripped off half the time. As was said, you need to knwo waht you're getting and how much it is worth.

as for a processor there are 3 options which seem feasable, lowend allendale(Core 2 Duo) Pentium D 805 and OC, or AM2 Athlon 64.
The Core 2 duo will cost a little more but will perform very well(great gamer and multitasker).. availablity might be limited though. The PD805 is dual core and can be voerclocked to a fair level. The Athlon 64 is single core but relatively cheap and games better than the PD805... alt+tabbing wont' be as pleasant though.

    1-2GB of ram will suffice

x800GTO 128mb... good ard reasonably price right now I ebleive they go for 90$ beleive it or not... and for the record, the 256mb version doesn't really perform much if any better. Someone find me a benchmark and prove me wrong on that(won't be happening FYI)

monitor too though? just go with john, I'm sleep deprived and lazy he's saying more or less what I am.

Don't get 939, the socket is okay, but you wont be able to upgrade in the future. The acer monitor only has a analoge interface, which is very old. Just get a normal cheap 17/19 inch tft, widescreen isnt even supported in most games and it doesn't makes big difference... and make sure it has dvi-d.
