2 Things... try to find you own style... Tutorials are good, to learn ur workflow and that of the software.. but concept and ideas, cant be taught... thats why some people are gods after 5 months, and some after 3 years are moderate.....
and never stop practicing try to learn something new every day, eventually ull get there..

I just look at LR psds.

download some of cliches, i learned alot from his, especially use of backgrounds and textures, how to get a certain feel.

Just like kennedy said, just gather a ton of psds and learn them

    PSD"S

are the gretest download some, don't download the best ones first though, download ones at your level and a bit higher to progress, don't download to advanced ones or you will not understand half the elements in them.

    hope that helps

imo having good stocks is a plus

i used to make sigs only with game characters and 'fake stuff' and then i realized making tags wasnt about just that. its about expressing feelings that you have about life and the people around you. thats when i started using 'real people' and things in my designs. that is when i became x2 better than i was, when i made a tag and the inspiration came from inside.

I am the exact same way. I enjoy making tags with real people in them a lot better. At times I'll make some without, such as the one I'm using now.

^Do whatever you wish to do and love what YOU create. Critiques are good from others, but not to be taken seriously unless you find something within the comments, suggestions and advice that can benefit your works, skill and techniques further towards the goal you desire/wish to reach. Try styles that are reflective to what you wish to create, or just do something unexpected, unprecidented and at random. Stop thinking about what if I do this to impress others, and think about What Would This Look Like If!?. That question has been my guide this entire 12 years of time, and when you get there, learn to accept Trials, Errors and Accidents.

    Addtionally:
You can also download my Audiobooks/HEARME files to learn some hidden tips that may influence you to THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! ;)

Okay, well, for starters, sigs are not the only thing you can do in Photoshop. Chances are likely that if all you are doing is sigs, you are not actually learning how the different functions of the program work. This is going to seriously hinder getting better with working with PS.

Also, Photoshop is one of those things where it seems so over-complicated and intimidating at first, but as you get used to working with it, sometimes things will just 'click' for you. Like, for example, I've been using Photoshop for nearly 7 years now. I use it for large art (photomanipulations) and painting mostly. I can look at my artwork, and there'll be sudden leaps in quality where everything after a certain point is much better than everything before it. There's no real explanation for this, but it's basically like a lightbulb going on in your head.

BTW, I do greatly dislike PSDs. I rather feel it's cheating. With tutorials at least you have to input the settings and such yourself and thus are at least somewhat figuring out what things do. This doesn't happen with PSDs. You can learn from them but it won't help you understand how Photoshop works.

I'd say try out some other art styles - don't stick with simply sigs. Go and read up on some tutorials on all of the tools and functions that Photoshop has, as this will help you get better with your art. Stay away from the filters - there's really no need to use them as just about every single filter can be replicated with the basic tools once you figure out how to use them. Don't be afraid to experiment around. And don't get discouraged if things don't always work the way you want them to - this just happens, even to the best. Sometimes you simply cannot get what you have in front of you to match your vision. If that happens, just simply try again.

Also, I don't know what people are talking about, but yes, there is a bit of math and science to art. Perspectives, angles, proportions, lighting - if you are not familiar with math and science or do not have an insanely good eye, you will have a hard time getting these right. If you ever want to try working with a fractal program to create your own - fractals ARE math; artwork created by mathematic formulas. And also, do yourself a favor and learn what stock really is. I'll give you a hint - it is not random photos of bands and actors off of google.

Experimenting as much as you can and following PSD's when you're out is a good idea. Try listening to music too.

There will always be people better than me in Photoshop. I admire that, for I love their artwork.

You just gotta suck it up and move on, really.
